Hmm. Needs a little more work to be well written. Not one mention of the Mormon migration from New York to Utah. They certainly had a sense of "suffering and being afraid". They learned to be prepared for anything the hard way.

Also repeated the Mayan Calendar farce as some kind of fact. The largest Calendar measure is resetting to the beginning. Kind of like a new day, week, month or year does. Maybe its a reminder that history can repeat its self.
