That is good to know! I always wondered how white gas storage compared to regular gas. In fact the only reason I haven't laid away a few gallons of white gas for emergency cooking use is because I figured it was no better than gasoline in that regard. Good to know better now... Time to stock up on a few 1-gallon cans. In an event where the flow of natural gas is interrupted, that little stove of mine might suddenly prove very useful.

Empty and then air it out for a few days to dry completely. I store all mine dry except for the weekly users - but those are my beaters.

As a note, if the check valve is stuck where it would not pump or the plunger comes back up by itself, take the plunger out then squirt carburator cleaner were the plunger screws into for a day and then try it again. Works like a charm... usually the ball bearing gets stuck and the carb cleaner does wonder to free them up..
I saw that green stove of yours in the pic and recognized the "Peak1" logo on it... I'm guessing yours is a little older than mine, not sure about that, but that green color was on earlier models I think... Also, your tank looks a little bigger. Thanks for all of the mechanical advice. You have a great collection.

xrMIKE, the Fount/Tank is the same. Keep that stove since you can carry it for backpacking, small enough. Also keep an eye for a Model 222 Coleman Lantern on CL - don't buy from eBay otherwise you'll pay more. I see them from time to time and if I see one I'll get them for you - $10 - $20 is reasonable depending on condition. That model complements your stove

This thread has inspired me to dig out my VERY abused 502-700 and bring it back to life. I got it in the late 70's when I first started camping. It traveled with me all over the world while I was in the Army.

I think all it really needs is a new generator and valve assembly (leaks really bad). It could really use a paint job too due to a fuel spill & fire years ago

11HE9, another excellent stove. If it leaks in the valve, try tightening the valve nut a little 1st to compress the packing and seal it - not to much. In most cases that will take care of the problem. If after a few try and it still leaks then you migh have to replace the generator graphite packing - you can order those from Coleman. If you need direction to take apart completely PM me - but that may not be necessary. Post some pics if you can - I like the look of a beat up stove - it shows it's been to a lot of fun

I took apart the valve assembly a while back, the seal (graphite packing?) was toast, probably from years of running milspec gasoline through it. I'm sure the generator is buggered up from the same fuel. I'll make sure to get some pics before I start the makeover.

Can I get paint from Coleman?

            *edit*

I think I found the fix for my leaky valve, just need to check dimentions

That's the place to order the graphite packing. If you look they have a schematic of that stove to order the right part. The generator should clean up fine - just don't bend the Tip when you take it out. Soak it in Citric Acid or denature alcohol to loosen the gunk for clean up

Also, if you check the forum link, there in the Technical then How to section - look for Project 502 - blow by blow instruction to rebuild a 502

Paint, Hunter Green is the closes one - take a picture - to me the rough up look is the way to go - its own character

It's not as abused as I remembered, I may just get it back to operational condition, get rid of some of the rust and run it "as is"... it took thirty+ years to get it to look like that after all

(it was green before the fire & repaint )

That stove will out live us both. Look at the Coleman Lamp made in the 20s. They don't make them like they use to..

If you decide to paint that stove - go for the Fire Red and then put your own logo. BTW, I have 5 of this stoves

A Coleman competitor from a long time ago...

I found this stove while going through my grandparents house just before the people came in to do a inventory for the estate sale. I have very little information on it... the best I can guess it's from the mid 1920's-30's.

It's missing the side windscreens, but it still works great

                      The KampKook model #???

WOW!!! That's a keeper, especially it's from your grandparents...
Good stove - has cast iron burners.

They got run out of Oklahoma during "The Dust bowl" (so I'm told), this may have made the trip with them.

What do you guys think of the Swiss set up? A little heavy and looks like it need a grid to hold the pot ect.

I like the big pressure tank.
