Same operation, maybe slightly cheaper quality but it's worked fine for 20+ years on white gas only.

The good thing about white gas is that it can be stored forever and doesn't deteriorate or cause rust like gasoline. A gallon can last many years of camping and it doesn't stink to high heaven if you spill it while filling or emptying the tank. Keep a filter with each stove/lantern and a bag of extra mantles and your good to go for any trip or "event".
rsrocket1 is right on on his assessment with the stinky smell and rust associated with gasoline. if you de-fuel and then air dry then it can reduce the rust and or smell issue. Fuel when ready to use

I will post pictures of some of my lanterns and some of my stoves this WE

      CURSE YOU BUCKWHEAT!!!

After reading your post about your addiction, I took a peek at my local CL for vintage Coleman stoves/lanterns (white gas). Like someone knew I'd be searching, there are three lanterns for $30 (the set) just south of me

      Road trip!!

        Things to look for:
holds good pressure - to test, make sure fuel cap is tight and valve is off when you pump air (may be an issue if the pump cap leather is dry - you can restore by dipping in Neatsfoot Oil
when you turn the valve - listen for the hiss and you might see fuel come out just shut off, at least the generator is not clogged up. Not a guaranty - it may pass air but the fuel pick up can be clogged. No bigge easy to clean
if empty look inside the fount (tank) check for rust

haggle on the price based on condition, I normally pay under $10 - more if mint
Single Mantle = 200A Model (RED)
Double Mantle = 220 Small Vent / 228 Big Vent (vent = hat) Green

the older ones are Nickel Plated

It is my opinion that Coleman of yesteryear would turn over in its/his grave with what is being produced under the Coleman name these days.....

You've got to know your gear and application. The stores like Sports Authority, Dicks, Bass have their "house" brand that's cheaper and at least the same quality as Coleman stuff, probably the same jobber. I buy most of the older stoves and lanterns I find garage sailing $5-$10, some new. Four of each and one three burner that was a hardware store rental. You guys DO remember when hardware stores rented camping stuff, don't you? PAX

Coleman lantern or stove won't "Pump up?"

Look at the thumb end of the pump rod. See the hole with the inscription. "Oil here." Drop in about 8-10 drops of oil and odds are your stove or lantern will begin working perfectly. May need to soak a bit.

They are not picky about the oil either. I've used my trucks dipstick to harvest 10 drops of 10-50 and was then able to make my coffee. Got to love low tech, simple and reliable products.

Lanterns are still great. I have issues with some of the other products. I had a couple sleeping bags fall apart on me though. I love the old stuff, but their new products especially from the big chain stores are getting really cheap.

OK, I decided that I post pics of my stoves instead. I figure it is more important than Lanterns although I will post my collection of selective lanterns sometime. I've figured the stoves are more important if the SHTF with the exception of the 60,000 BTU Miliitary stoves - just to big unless you have an army and bugging in. This is just a sample of what I have since I am not showing 2 or 3 burners stove that you guys may be familiar with. I have about 60 plus of this - getting into boxes to get them out is just a PITA - some are under my Rottie's crates

The oldest stove is on the top left made by Coleman Model 544 made n 1920 - it Rock and Roar and next to it is a Model 500 made in June 1956 (one of my favorite) and after that is the Handy Gas Plant below the 454 & 500 in front far left

Do you recognize some of the other stoves?

The huge one on the far left and the big silver one on the far right on the crate are super cool!

                        Nice collection buckwheat!!

I own, or have owned a few of those. I have no idea what happened to my G.I. "Pocket" stove (tripod version) though

What do you use the large field kitchen stove for?

11HE9 - the large Military Stove is unfired. I have no use for it but a buddy just gave it to me. I have a Military Stove - Sterilizing kit that I would use before I use this one. I will post a picture of that sometime. I have another buddy who is interested on that one - Its a monster 60,000 BTU so I might just sell it??

Will post some of the selected lanterns soon!

I picked up a Coleman Mod.# 413E this afternoon. Some surface rust on one corner, but over all in great shape. ($25)

It looks like it's never been used on the inside

                                Excellent pick
Things I do when I pick up old stove
                                1. Oil the pump leather cup to re-conditioned if dry
                                2. Check the Tube where the generator goes into, if you have spider web in there it causes flame out.
                                3. If there's fuel, I run them after doing 1 & 2
                                4. Then I used in the back yard to cook breakfast or dinner during the weekend
                                5. drain fuel, store for next use and or look for the next good deal
