    Safe deposit boxes during Katrina

Another thread had me scratching my head and made me wonder what happened to banks and safe deposit boxes during Katrina.

I know posted thread before googling....brb

In looking to find any references to exploits against banks or safe deposit boxes - this link to Katrina evacuees lesson learned was interesting reading.

I can't find any cases of penetrated banks during Katrina, I'm stunned that pro bank robbers don't use the cover of these hurricanes to spend some quality time in or near a bank vault.

Plenty of stories that make me think having your documents in a bank vault that is below the lake/river level is a bad idea.

The banks were saved by the Blackwater guys.
Erik Prince deployed his private army without contract, remember?

Where, how bad, and how long hurricanes will be is not predictable.

I seem to recall knowing Katrina would most likely make landfall at least 2 days ahead...

If you knew WHERE two days ahead, you knew more than anyone on the planet. It was expected to hit east of New Orleans, then boresighted the Crescent City. A 40 foot flood still hit the Gulf Coast.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wrote a well remembered op ed about how the prospected landfall would punish the rural south instead of the urban. He was wrong.

You're right. I remember knowing it would hit somewhere, but probably not exactly where.

Bank robbers don't have it together as well as the Hollywood ones do anyway.
