I do not own either but I have heard a lot of folks are happy with the Cold Steel SRK which I think is a very close (knock off) look alike with good steel as well.

Here is a comparison post http://blog.tsaknives.com/2008/09/14...kniven-a1.aspx

I personally carry both a Gerber LHR and an Ontario RTAK II when on foot. The LHR just fits my hand well and works for light camp tasks. The RTAK II is great for processing fire wood or shelter building. I prefer it over a camp ax. Blew me away when I was figuring all this stuff out

My wife carries a Buck 119 that is wicked sharp and she loves it.

Knives are so individual, there is no one size fits all.
    All things being equal...

Very nice, wish i had that kind of dough to spend on a knife. Until then, i'll stick with my Kabar too. Here's mine.

I've been thinking about picking a K-Bar Becker "Necker", just need to find one local to check out before I decide.

Just get it on Amazon, free shipping and if you dont like it, just return it, they pay for shipping too. That's if you cant find one locally to play with. I personally went with the Izula from ESEE. A bit smaller but well made. It's a little more expensive than the Becker Necker though.

I'm waiting on my Phrobis M9 III with full scabbard... It's military surplus, have 5 coming, but in virtually perfect condition. It's designated a bayonet but I'm sure it'll work well as an all around survival knife as well. Here is a stock photo of one:

Reach out to SOG about the chip. They will likely replace it for you especially if you send them an email from your .mil address

I have been carrying SOG since the early 90's when the PX started carrying them. I wear suits these days so have the more fancy SOG Arcitech as my EDC. You should see the wide eyes when i whip that out to open up a box or something
I had heard that the only thing not insured by any company was the tip. I should at least try though. Good story on how it was chipped. Shoved it between the bricks in a wall to act as a step to get into a compound in Baghdad. I'm not a small guy, and it held my weight in full kit - at least for a second. Went and pulled it out after we secured the place.

I'll bet you a new SOG that they will fix or replace it, when you tell them the story.

I'm jealous and I like it, but there is no way I could ever justify spending that much money on a knife. I just couldn't do it.

It is a good-looking knife though.

Depends on condition I'm sure.... I've seen them for $60 and I've seen them over $200. I think my cost on the 5 I'm getting will end up at about $90-$100 a piece with shipping to me from back east but I'm not 100% sure on that yet.

Ah, I love the ESEE Izula as well. Extremely tough knife and performs far past its small size. However, I still wouldn't feel comfortable having only it as my main survival blade. Plus, its high carbon content means you better keep it dry or you'll rust out fast.

As a backup blade or neck knife it can't be beat though. Here's mine next to the Fallkniven A1.
