Stuff in alaska is always so darn expensive; I thought this stuff might be less. Its pretty there, I enjoy visiting but the winters would be a survival nightmare without a lot of prep....

One issue that I heard that is hard to deal with is the two seasons: light and dark. Some people can't deal with it at all.

yeah, that's why I left Chicago. The winters really started to drag on me.

I was in Soldotna last month on a fishing trip. I talked to some locals who told me the Winter is pretty tough and most of the town is pretty quiet in Winter. Lots of people flock to Soldotna during the Summer for the Salmon run.

Not much to do there in Winter.

I fished Soldotna last summer. There were an amazing amount of properties for sale up there. During the ten minute ride to town we saw at least 15 properties near the river for sale. It's beautiful there but I wouldn't want to be there during winter.

I've heard that some towns are dry - I guess that worries me in that they took the easy route of prohibiting alcohol rather than punishing those who can't control themselves. That mindset worries me a bit.

Beautiful place to live if you could handle the winters - it's probably a bit easier living right on the coast - I imagine that moderates the weather a bit.

I did a 3 week exercise in Kodiak once in January, left San Diego at 62 degrees, got to Kodiak it was 63 degrees. It started snowing the next day, just a fluke.
