You might like this item from milwaukee, it will charge via USB and a 12VDC cigarette lighter style socket. Then get either the regular battery here, or extended battery here, and a dual 120VAC/12VDC charger here, and you have power and options! I have three of them and love them camping, hotels(outlets never near the bed for cell phone alarm) etc.

Granted the total cost is probably much more, but I think it might be the most useful and versatile portable power outside of a generator.
