    Great New Orleans Gun Grab

I know this book as been discussed here before. Just a reminder to anyone who hasn't read it to please pick up a copy and read it.

    Really scary stuff.

Did California pass one of those "we won't take your guns in the event of an emergency" bills? Not that it would do any good, but I would have printed copies of that on hand. Spent some time in google looking. anyone have a link if such a bill exists?

AB 1645 is as close as we have but I've heard AB14 will remove those protections.

Who remembers Hurricane Katrina? Hurricane Katrina Aug. 28, 2005 had devastating effects on the citizens in Louisiana. During this time pol...

Here's the relevant text from aB1645

SECTION 1. Section 8571.5 is added to the Government Code, to
      read:
8571.5. Nothing in this article shall authorize the seizure or
confiscation of any firearm or ammunition from any individual who is
lawfully carrying or possessing the firearm or ammunition, or
authorize any order to that effect, provided however, that a peace
officer who is acting in his or her official capacity may disarm an
individual if the officer reasonably believes it is immediately
necessary for the protection of the officer or another individual.
The officer shall return the firearm to the individual before
discharging the individual, unless the officer arrests that
individual or seizes the firearm as evidence pursuant to an
investigation for the commission of a crime.

So the way I read 8571.5 above, we are allowed to own firearms as long as our rulers feel like letting us. In Cali's political climate, how long will that last? I don't think that law has any teeth.

He did. It's contained in the Homeland Security Authoriztion Bill of 2006 and as amended in 2007. It prohibits federal employees or the use of federal funds for confiscating firearms lawfully possessed under federal or state law.

The states, using their own people and their own money can do as they please, unless they have their own version of the law.

Under the rule of Marshall Law those provisions or any state provision will be null and void.

Sorry officer no guns here, I lost them in a boating accident.

I understand and share the commitment, but in the case of some of those gun grabs in Louisiana, what would we have done? Shot it out with the police?

You're in your house, and there are two or three armed officers demanding entry and/or your guns. You WILL be dead if you open up on them, if not from them then from the back-up they call in.

It's a lose-lose proposition. Maybe just don't open the door, but those grabs in New Orleans were pretty aggressive, I think they kicked a few doors in down there. So what to do in that situation?

Absolutely agree with xgi1991s statement. stick together with your neighbors, best option. It is much easier for the government/ local LEOs to disarm individual families rather than an entire neighborhood working together in unison. Plus a banned community will likely have less violence and need for disarmament as appose to individuals or large cities engulfed in chaos like we all saw during Katrina.

I would defiantly recommend reading this book for how to prepare for short term survival situation. None of the state or federal laws will prevent confused and stressed out LEOs from taking your guns. None of the good old boys from down south (to my knowledge) stood up to the 1000s of gun confiscations. So don't be chiming in on how you are going to stand up to the the cops when they come a knocking.

                              AB 14? Which AB 14? There's this one -
AB 14, as introduced, Wieckowski. Redevelopment: Fremont
                              Redevelopment Agency.
It's dead for the year, never even had a first committee meeting.

Perhaps SB 14? That's a State Budget bill

Would you please check with whatever source suggested a bill number with that kind of content?

                              Ah, sorry - a simple typo - not 14 but 144.

The analysis at the link really does not make much of a case that 144 would undo 1645.
