I used to make these as a kid. If you put enough wax on them they are basically water proof. On one occasion my pack went into a stream, but the buddy burner still lit and burned without any issues.
The only bad thing when these are used for cooking, is they will leave a metric crap ton of soot on your pots and pans. It's kinda greasy too which can make a mess when they are back in your pack.
I've taken the really small condensed milk cans and cut off some material to make them about half as tall to make buddy burners for fire starters. You can also make very tiny ones with votive candle containers.

Thanks, I appreciate it, and that does make sense.

This is way cheaper than buying cans of "sterno" to cook with. I made a little grill top out of rebar and now i can place an open can of canned food on top to heat it up.

Thanks i cant wait to make the wax in the morning. Thanks for the video!
Score! I like your idea of the little grill also. Would make warming a can of food up alot easier. I`m heading over to my grocery store to see if I can find some of this wax you mention.

A penny stove would be better to cook with. They are much cleaner.

For those that don't know - this wax is also called paraffin wax.

I got around to making these today and I say they came out pretty good. I rolled and packed the cardboard well and put it in a standard size tuna can. It didn`t look like there would be anyroom for wax but it took alot more wax than I thought it would. It took a long time for them to cool off I had time to clean up and put everything away and they were still warm. I`m going to light one see how big the flame gets and possible make a small grill for holding cans similar to what TrailorparkTrash did. I`m curious to see how it turns out.
