looking for Remote Tent Camping Spot in Sierras

    Hi All,

I'm looking to get out of town with the GF and kid on the 4th of July weekend. I know camping spots near LA will be packed, so in order to avoid all the knuckleheads we want to try to camp somewhere peaceful. We're looking for a remote location to camp near a lake or river within 4-5 hours drive of LA. I'm thinking somewhere near Bishop or Mammoth, or maybe even in the Kern area. I haven't camped in these areas before and with all the Park closures recently, I thought I'd check with the experts here on Calguns first. Does anyone have an idea of where we can go? Thanks!

That spot looks amazing for truck camping. Does it stay fairly vacant year round? I'd definitely be interested in finding a site like this one. Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with the directions listed and I'm lead to believe it's in Southern CA? If one were able to target shoot, that would seal the deal.

Neat, is it a registered camp ground? Like under the jurisdiction of the USDA forest service etc.

Try Bull Run Lake in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness located in the Stanislaus NF.

This lake is beautiful, but it's a couple of mile hike to get there. You can't drive.
If you want quiet, this is it.

North on Hwy 5, East CA 4, continue up to the Sierras.
When you get to Lake Alpine you will probably see allot of people.
Continue on CA 4 till you come to Stanislaus Meadows on the right, park your car or truck, grab your pack and follow the trail.

You will need a map. The trail is well marked but you should have one anyway.

There is a road that goes from Stanislaus Meadows and ends up as a trail head. In between, you can drive your car or truck in there. It is off the beaten path and you would probably only see hikers walking by. You can camp right there in the woods near the meadow.
I've seen cow hands camping and taking care of their cattle in the nearby fields.

I have had good times at Lake Ellery and Saddlebag Lake.

Take Hwy 395 to Hwy 120 west...The campground is just before the Entrance to Yosemite.

High Country, Cool to cold at nights.

Any campground you can drive up to is not "remote" by any stretch of the imagination. "Remote" involves some hiking on a trail.
Things usually turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out.

Not true by any stretch of the imagination. Properly equipped 4x4's can get you places where you won't see anyone for weeks at a time. Ask me how I know
