    "Survivorman" - Behind the Scenes

My publication recently did a profile on Les Stroud, which focuses more on the video production than the survival aspects, but I thought some fans of the show here might want to check it out.

He appears to be aging horribly now, though.

I hate his show, to me he just seems like a whiney fake. But that's just my opinion. I hate seeing a show where he is supposed to survive but ends up going to stay with the crew because there is a rain storm or something

You've got him confused with the british guy called Bear on Man v. Wild
when Les does something disgraceful, he puts it in the show
(like stealing meat from his sled dogs, because he didn't catch any rabbit {ok "hare"})

actually, you are about Bear Grylls of man vs wild. he is the guy who did that. survivorman is done by les stroud. he goes by himself and nobody else with him. before you start bashing anything, get your facts straight!!!

Yeah! Like when articles are posted about law enforcement topics....oh wait...wrong thread.

I watch surviorman and actually enjoy the show for the most part. Personally, I think the guy is partly crazy, but I don't ever sleep to far from a down pillow. I am fragile.

I am beginning to like the show. I get the feeling hes not muh of a survivor when he says "ow" or looks incompetent. But thats probabalyt after watching so much man vs wild. This guy seems like an amature.

No I am talking about Survivorman, not Man vs. Wild. I was watching the one where he is supposed to be shipwrecked on a raft and a storm comes so he calls the crew boat to come rescue him until the storm blows over. What kind of surviving is that? I saw another one where he was in the jungle and after only a couple of days he starts getting a foot fungus so he gives up and hikes back to the hotel. I also disagree with a lot of his survival ideas. The last show I saw he spent 3 days without trying to find ANY food because he had a can of coke that he could drink when he got too weak. If you are trying to survive, you must get food, water, and shelter not wait on food and water like he did.

Anyway, the show is entertaining overall but he just bugs me. I'm sure I am in the minority (after all the show gets good ratings).

Just so everyone knows, no one has come up with any proof of Bear Gryls doing any of the stuff people are claiming. People also claim that he doesn't actually do any of the stuff in the actual wild, that the things he finds are planted, and that he's a pansy. The man has climbed Everest more than once, and served in the SAS. I like both shows, Bear just seems to go in with less gear, and not complain as much.

                              1. Blind men have climbed everest more than once.
                              2. He was in what is basically the SAS "reserves", never full time commando style anything.
                              3. There were HORSESHOES on the wild horses he found in the sierras. The survival expert for that show admitted publicly that the horses were planted from a local rancher.
                              4. It has been documented that he is never as far from civilization as they claim. A hunter showed a pic where Bear was in the middle of nowhere, except for the fire road under his feet that never made it in the shot!
                              5. I still like the show, but I understand he is more entertainer than survivalist.
                              6. Les Stroud also has his weak moments...I would have never shown the shipwreck episode. Between being let out of the rain by the rescue boat, and leaving the island early due to "political" issues, thats gay. He also seems to be complaining more in the new season, and I hate that he never really tries to get out. He just tries to wait for the rescue crew that he KNOWS is coming at a specific time.

It is much harder and probably more realistic that you may have to save yourself one day. So they should both show us how to save ourselves, without certain rescue or life jackets and harnesses. Who cares if they die? Fatality on camera seals your fate in television history, especially if you get attacked by a wild spider monkey or cape cobra while pestering them and sleeping in their tree. Just ask Steve Erwin.
