    The Road

    This is not a , I don't know, maybe?

Have you read the book and then saw the movie?
If you did, did the movie leave you with the same feeling as the book?

I read the book and couldn't put it down. 1-day read for me.
The book really gave you a feeling of desolation, no life, no color, no vibrancy of our human existence.
The book left me with a feeling of overwhelming dread and sadness.
Struggle, fear and love. The human spirit was strong in the book.

The movie was the same but didn't do the book justice in my opinion.
Maybe I am much more visual in my minds eye from reading a book.

TacticalCity had a great thread about this either in this section or OT. Great book but the movie didn't quite capture the same appeal.

The book like you said was a fast one day read and made me depressed. The movie made me want to go out back and bury more food and ammo.

Same here and that's how I voted, but I was torn between that option and this one: OHOD, The Road cannot happen.

I really dont like how people use "The Road" as a SHTF outlet. The author created it as a metephor for the love between a father and son and the sacrifices he will go through for that love. Thats why even in the movie, everything is left unclear as to what happened and why everything was dying out. It wasnt important for the message and story because of what the real picture was for.

There actually was allot more metaphors and analogies in that movie besides the love between a father and son.
But yes, that was an important point.

here is a link that outlines some of the major themes and paternal love is one of them among others....

The Road study guide contains a biography of Cormac McCarthy, literature essays, quiz questions, major themes, characters, and a full summary and analysis.
