South Sierra Camping?

This is a long shot. But if anyone would be willing to help I'd appreciate it:
I am heading to the south Sierra tent camping this weekend. My plan is to arrive late Friday and leave Monday afternoon. Currently I plan to head up the Kern River to one of the upper campgrounds (Limestone, or one of the Peppermints). But I am trying to find a campground on a lake where I can fish with my 7 and 12 year-old boys. I found Hume Lake, but all sites are booked.
Anyone have any alternative ideas?

Look at Kennedy Meadows , it has great fishing and camping, the kids can fish the wide shallow river near the store. No lakes here.

You won't be going to Kennedy Meadows any time soon. They just closed Sonora Pass 7 miles past Stawberry on 108, that's Cascade Creek. From Escondido that's about 9 hours. Get out you charts and look for places on the western fringe of forest service land around 3500 feet, then call ahead to check current conditions. PAX

Look at Balch Park and Frazier Mill, they next to each other and are both part of Tulare County. Balch Park has a pond with decent fishing for planted trout.

I access from Hwy 395 @ "nine mile canyon rd" almost always open year round. Just up from Hwy178

How about Princess Campground? It's only a short drive from Hume and there is a huge meadow adjacent to it that is begging for an impromptu range.

Not in the Sierra's but check out Lake Nacimiento.

There is a primitive camping area across from lower peppermint campground that we go to in the summer.The creek that runs thru there holds trout.I know it wasnt stocked for about 2 years til this past labor day and last 4th of july i caught 2 trout pretty easily.Labor day we did well.
