Anyone want to go in half on some EMP/Food storage 7mil bags?

I want some puncture proof bags and found a heck of a bargain on these bags at .23 cents each. Used by Nasa to protect against EMP and can also be used as a food storage bag (my use). They are puncture proof to 38lbs and 7 mils thick aluminized Mylar. The O2 and H2o barrier is one of the best.

Bottom line is these bags are kick *** and dirt cheap. The company is in LA but wont do will call so freight and tax is included.

Size of bag is 7.25" x 9.0 " O.D. Good for storing 2 person meals. I want minimum 500 bags out of a case of 1k.

This is what I am trying to accomplish.

Introducing IronShield™ - Heavy Duty Mylar® bags with exceptional moisture and oxygen barrier properties, outstanding puncture resistance, and a remarkable minimum thickness of 7.0 mils, making them the optimal choice for virtually any industrial application, rigorously field-tested and proven effective under adverse and varied conditions.

I have plenty but never thought about using them for EMP. Thanks for the idea.

Those bags would provide some protection from EMP, but I'd stick to your ammo can for the important gadgets. Or better yet, put the gadgets in the bags and put the bags in the can.

The main problem is the bag's 2 ohms/sq in resistivity which is high compared to a metal like steel (and the conductivity is similarly low since conductivity is the reciprocal of resistivity).

Steel's resistivity is about 30 micro ohm/in so the bag's resistivity is around 66,000x higher (conductivity 66,000x lower). Absorption loss is proportional to the conductivity, so for the E-field absorption that's about 20 log (66000) = 96 dB worse.

The other issue is the thickness of the conductive layer. The bag is 7 mil thick, but the conductive layer will only be a fraction of that. Absorption loss is directly proportional to material thickness (of the conductive material) so the bag would again have less loss vs. the ammo can.

I'm too lazy to run downstairs and measure the sheet metal thickness on an ammo can, and since we don't know the thickness of the bag's conductive layer anyway... I'm happy to sit here sipping my beer and let someone else work out the rest of the numbers if they are really interested. Which no one probably is.

        PC,

When are you thinking of doing this buy? Im a little cash low at the moment due to some ridiculous fiasco, but if you havent got anybody lined up yet or arent getting them for a few weeks, I'd be up for taking the other 500.

It blows that they wont do will call, my work is about a 5 to 10 minute drive from these guys.

Actually one person said they would and one said they wouldn't at this point. I called a second time last night to ask again. I really want to get started on my food bagging so Im going to buy the case today or Monday.
