Stanislaus Nat'l Forest -- cool places to shoot?

Anybody know of good places to shoot in the Stanislaus Nat'l Forest area? I'll be camping out there with some other CGN'ers and we want to do a little target shooting.

Also, we are very responsible and always pick up our trash (and those of others) in case you are afraid of giving away a spot in fear that it might be spoiled

    TIA for any tips.

Heading up to highway 108 past Sugar Pine just as you go into the forest service land there is a weight station. The weight station has not been in use for many years and is easy to miss. It is on the left hand side of the road. About 1-2 miles past it on the left side their is a side road that goes back into the woods. It is not a difficult road (took a Prius back there) and go about 2 miles back and off to the right side there is a clearing with a good backstop to shoot into. I have not gone past that area but I am sure there are lots of good places beyond that. Have fun, Sammy

Just a heads up. I called the ranger station at Hatheway Pines on Hwy 4 to check on some road conditions. Most all roads throughout the Stanislaus above 4500' are still closed. Call the day before you go to see if there's closures. With the latest batch of storms they didn't foresee any new wheeled vehicle road access. They're still seeing snow mobile usage every where. At the Spicer Meadow Road they had 4' of snow into Stanislaus Camp at 5200'. Where ever you end up going, it will be wet. We're not going to have much melt before Memorial Day, but I'm planning on packing to the Blue Hole anyway. PAX

I have shot before at Stanislaus Nat'l forest with no problem, get a map i think they have them online and take a look at the different places and check out the area and look for old dirt roads which might still be covered by snow but can lead you to great safe places to shoot!
