A little while back I asked a question about ziplock mylar bags for 5 gallon buckets and whether they were good or not.
Well, I answered my question today... I purchased 10 of these ziplock bags from USA Emergency Supply and packaged up 10 five gal buckets of rice, dried macaroni and beans today. The ziplocks are pretty much worthless!
I filled the bags, threw in some oxygen absorbers, sealed the ziplock except at the end and used a small vacuum to suck out excess air. I then fully sealed the ziplock and when I went to fold up the bag in the bucket I could hear air either entering or exiting the bags throught the ziplock. They don't seal well at all. The smallest movement of the bags caused the ziplock to pop open and let air in. I ended up getting out the iron and sealing the bags before and after the ziplock portion to be safe.
I will just use standard mylar bags from now on. The ziplock doesn't seal well and is just in the way when you go to seal with an iron.
