I personally didn't pack up (but have grab & go things ready in the home). However, I don't fault you or think it's crazy. In general, most people don't prepare for anything (ask your non-firearm & firearm friends how many have a 72 hour kit of food & water available or carry anything like that in their trunks).
I think Thor's hammer was an 45-70 lever action loaded with Garrett cartridges.

I find that 90% of the questions asked here have been answered 20 or more years ago by Jeff in hid Gargantuan Gunsite Gossip books.

when the show I was watching got interrupted by the alert (Obama coming on to give news about National Security to the World)... a lot of scenarios went through my mind..

I was thankful that I have a lot of ammo and food / water stored (but not enough)...

When I mentioned Earthquake preparedness, it wasn't for the actual shaking that you need to prep for. I know Sac doesn't have many active faults, there was a 6.2 back in '84
It's the infrastructure issues of a major quake anywhere in CA that should be planned for. The grid could be down, water supply and waste treatment possibly limited.
If wifey doesn't like the SHTF prep, then call it earthquake is all I'm saying.

I think there is a distinct possibility of sleeper cells in place in say, New York, LA, SF, DC, Podunk, USA that could at a moment's notice trigger an event. You know, dirty bomb, chemical release, hell-maybe they'll just blow up a bus or a mall. Do you really think that with the relative ease of getting across our Northern or Southern borders that the BGs aren't among us? Though since 9/11, it has been surprisingly quiet on our soil. Hmmmm

                    War

The only thing that comes to mind would be a little thing like "war." With our troops spread world wide thin, our southern border wide open, and certain dictators in the ME under our fire or threat I could see them mustering to help al queda move some troops into America and start their own form of smart bombing.
