    Wife thinks I'm Crazy

After last nights Bin Laden news, I started packing up essential bug out stuff in my truck, so if something did happen, we'd be first on the road.

Am I crazy? Did anybody else do the same thing?

No I didn't worry. Yes I know they are worried about retaliation, but for some reason I'm not. My reasons.....

1). They report OBL had no communication abilities so I suspect his primary organization is pretty week.

2). Elements of al queda have been bust stirring up crap in middle east nations....Libya included, so they are occupied and I doubt they will change plans and retaliate for OBL...these morons do plan their actions....we know that much.

So I don't expect any problems.....which is why you are probably right and I'm wrong....

essentially you will have to decide what world instance will be the trigger for you and your family.

Perhaps a little pre-mature on packing the truck.... maybe..

I think you need to sit down with her and discuss what the trigger is going to be. Run through several hypothetical situations so everyone is on the same game plan.

Rather than asking a forum if we think you are nuts.

Our answer will always be "YOU BETCHA YOU ARE NUTS!!!"

But then arent we all? For even considering a notion to provide for ourselves and our families.

I get what your saying. In fact, my wife asked me, "What do you think is going to happen?" I replied with, "Well, I don't think anything will happen. But if something does happen, we will be moderately prepared."

Where do you plan on going in your truck? If something does happen the freeways/roads are going to be SWARMED with people. I doubt you'll be able to find any gas anyways. Best to just defend your house first and foremost.

I'll have to admit, that's one thing we haven't done. We still need to sit down and have a real plan on where we are going to go, and what it takes for us to have to actually leave.

She's really on board with this too, I guess I have just been lazy/busy with other stuff to hash it out with her.

Bugging in would be our original plan. If that's the case, then packing the truck would have been a non-issue.

The only thing that would cause me to really leave, would be the possibility of any dirty bomb, chemical weapon, anything like that. And my route would be, "The Other Way" of whatever it is that causes me to leave. I know that is pretty far fetched.

                  1) They reported that OBL had no electronic communications at the compound. That was to evade detection - not because he couldn't get it.

                  2) Elements of al queda are all over the world - not just in the ME. Complacency is bad , mmkay?

I had the wife cancel her plans to go shopping in downtown LA today, just in case.

Other than that, i'm in the "where the **** would I go anyway?" camp, but I have an ALICE packed with goodies at all times. I also have bag in my vehicle, as well as the wife's. That's why it's called PREPPING and not REACTING.

You can be certain that Al Qaeda will strike back, but it will take them months, if not years to plan. Since security is so tight in the US, it will most likely happen abroad. My guess is they will find a US embassy in some African country and go after that in retaliation. I dont think we have anything to worry about, but its good to be ready just in case.

                      Not if going first

Actually if he's packed and ready to go he'd be an hour or two ahead of the congestion....maybe even faster. If tou decide to bug in the fuel to bug out later will be harder to get.....or if you have it....harder to defend

Well for some reason, the primary call to action I've read they put out was against Pakistan. Since they've obviously got lots of people already happily sitting over there, I'd expect something over there first...I'm betting it will be a while before anything more serious than someone trying to light his shoes or underwear makes it over here.

That's what I was thinking. I mean, there would still be traffic, but if something did happen I could literally just get in my truck and go. No packing necessary.

Oh so when ShTF you will not be at work, your wife won't be at work, grocery store, mall or hair salon? Ok that's a good plan. I plan to stay at home at all times too

                              LOL

Well I work at home, and my wife works about 10 minutes from our bug out spot which is 50 minutes closer then home; so everyone's circumstance is different. Like I said to "bug out" may depend on how fast you can do it. If you can't be fast enough then you best bug in or hoof it.

Riddle me this; if you can bug out by vehicle are you not far better off then hoofing it?
