I'll be using a cister, no water rights needed.
composting toilet, no septic sewer needed.
Gray water field, can put in myself.
    Solar panel electric.
Kitchen stove, up in the air about this one for now.

What about hurricanes and such? Any past incursions into this area?

rp55 inspired me to look up the tax history on my property.

Turns out the owners bought it back in 2002 for about $2k. The appraised value jumped up to $33k over the next 6 years, then in 2008 the appraised value tanked to $7060.
The lot has been on the market since 12/09, which I already knew.

Considering the property has been in their possession for over 8 years, I would think there is nothing wrong with it or else they would have sold it a long time ago. At least that's my thinking.

In their eyes, they probably think they made $5k, but considering inflation and purchasing power of the FRN, they lost or at least broke even.

Price was reduced $3.1k in February 2011

I've lived most of my life just north of the location in Venice, Sarasota, Port Charlotte.
Used to go fishing and hiking at Myakka River State Park.
                Hunting in the Glades.

while the weather can be rough, it's just like anything else, you get used to it.
