Sun late PM 4-24 Silver going nuts

That gut feeling thats telling me the economy is going down the toilet just got more real ($46.50-$49.70) I clicked on Forex real-time commodity ticker and see that silver is shooting through the roof. If silver has gone up 500% does that mean the dollar has gone down that much? Fuel up 13% in 14 days. Food is going crazy. Quantities have shrunk trying to fool us into thinking smaller is easier to handle and less wasteful.

Scary times we live in. Scary times!

Silver isn't up 500 %. .... yet. In January it was well under 30 so the current yr gain is 55 to 60%.....still extreme.

In January how much was a reasonable AR? $750.....still is
How about 1000 rnds of ???? Same.
Is your food cost up 13% this year? Mine isn't
      Gas fluctuates with events

I love silver, have plenty, but I don't think it's rise is much a do about anything but our dollars decline

Silver went from 5 to 49.70 in a few years. Not saying this year it went up that much. As far as food goes my food is up much higher than 13%. Salmon has gone from 5.99 to 8.99lb. Bread is up. Milk is up. Eggs are up. Butter is up. All red meat is up a bunch. Rice jumped from 7/25lbs to 13/25lbs in a few months. Sizes are shrinking and prices are climbing. I clocked Costco in 3 weeks on the food I buy up 26%.

The prices of gold and silver have hit new record highs, driven up by a weaker US dollar and continuing tensions in the Middle East.

Checking AMPEX silver is only up $2.78 as the markets open in London and gold is up $13.20 This is sweet. Ripon83 I read your posts and I see you took a little taste of the profits. Good for you I think I am going to sell $40.00 of Silver quaters and dimes that should net me about $1400.00 bones on my inital 2005 purchase of $220.00 for $40.00 dollars in junk silver. I am glad I started buying back in 05. My wife about had a kaniption when she found out how many OZ's of silver we had

Speculators rushed in after the long weekend and the sellers were there to meet them and enjoy the profits. Hence is the world of commodity trades.

I just returned from Wal Mart for my weekly stock up and my bill was less then $120 including 2 boxes of 45's. I didn't skimp on anything and bought some junk I didn't need - like a bag of Tortilla chips still $2, it was $2 in January and $2 last summer. I like to buy 1 gallon plastic jugs of bottled water because they make great targets later on and they were down from $.99 to $.88 today....not one thing I bought seemed higher.

Perhaps you guys buying 25 lbs bags of rice, flour, etc are noticing the commodity price difference but its just me and my Mrs. and we don't buy much of those things.

I can go and spend 120 at walmart without saying what I'm buying and how much. If the bulk bags Im buying are going up I am positive the stuff you are buying is going up. I cannot see walmart eating the loss. Are you buying the exact same quantities and items? They are cutting the size of the package contents to make you think you are paying the same. A 32oz box of cereal now contains 27oz. I watched the price of salmon go from 5.99 to 8.99 or even 9.99lb. Hamburger is up from 2 to 4 bucks a lb. Avocados are now 2ea up from 1.50. Nothing is the same and all prices have jumped. So the eggs, butter, milk fish, meat, chicken are still the same price from a year ago?

Prices on food have skyrocketed. I cant find anything that says walmart is eating the inflation on food prices. In fact I find just the opposite.

"Wal-Mart's Prices Rise to Highest in Almost Two Years
                    October 1, 2010

Walmart’s prices rose in September to the highest level in at least 21 months, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co., as the world’s largest retailer scaled back discounts from earlier this year."

"Wal-Mart CEO: ‘Serious, Rapid’ Inflation Will Send Prices Soaring

                    Thursday, 31 Mar 2011 12:34 PM

                    By Greg Brown

The one retailer prepared to cut costs to the bone to save money for consumers now warns that prices will rise very soon — no matter what. Retailers have generally managed to hold prices low despite rising raw materials costs. They had little choice: High U.S. unemployment and lack of credit has kept people out of stores. That’s over, says Wal-Mart CEO Bill Simon. Prices will now rise across the board for all retailers, Wal-Mart included. He called the situation “serious.”

"We're seeing cost increases starting to come through at a pretty rapid rate," Simon told USA Today in a meeting with the newspaper’s editorial board."

I only pay close to attention to the costs of things I don't need. Cause I will cut them out if needed.

Box of 45 Federal FMJ 230 grain was $18.47 including tax (got my priorities right)

Bag of tortilla chips $2 - maybe they are making it a smaller bag but it last me a week to nibble on.

Campbells Soup - big can - $1.62....same as in January, and the same as in the fall last year.

Brownie Mix for 9x13 pan - on sale $1.00. I usually pay $1.29 for a different one.

                      Bottled Water...always been .99 there now $.88

My frozen burrittos bag of 8...$2.44 and they've been as high as $2.88 in the past.

Like I noted; I did not buy a 10 lb, 25lb or large supply of anything. I don't freeze dry it and can't make it last long enough to enjoy so I don't buy that kind of stuff.

I looked very hard for something that was higher in price, and nothing on my list really shined as being more. I just don't get this rapid inflation on food thing....

Inflation is here. I see it in my raw material (I own a Mfg. Co.) and in transportation costs. In some cases plastic items have doubled. I raised my prices by 5% but am not sure if it will be enough. If oil keeps going up the U.S. is going to get hit hard.

My dogs food has risen about 40% in the past two years.

                            Hmmm

I've been buying science diet in 35 lb bags for 3 yrs now 210 lbs at a time. Our great Danes love it. We just learned petco killed the 10% discount for 200 lb buys at one time, but we still get the 11th bag free and it's not any more then a few years back when on sale.

Yes gas is up. My coffee is the same. My water is the same or less. Ammo is the same or less. This sky falling inflation.....I don't see it.

My dogs have been eating The Professional brand food from Pet Food express for years.

3 years ago it was $29.99 per bag with the fourth free.

Now it is $43.99 but you still get the fourth free.

Guess I'm not as fortunate as you. My coffee has gone up as well as a myriad of other items.

                              Life goes on.
