    Shoot boat camp

Hello all. Looking for recommendations on a great location to shoot, put the boat in somewhere and camp. Ideally I could do all this without seeing a lot of other people while camping and shooting.

Location should be within 2 hours of the greater los Angeles area. My usual shooting spot is outside of ridgecrest on blm land in the desert. Any one familiar with Lake Isabella? Spots to shoot nearby? I love my blm spot because I can shoot/train at will with nobody freaking out when they see an ar15.

For the boating I have a porta-bote, the amazing portable boat. If you dont know, look it up.

It weighs 70lbs or so and a launch ramp is not necessary. I can pretty much put it in anywhere.

Ideas? I'm in long beach and the closer the better.

My Dad had a porta boat back when we were kids. He got it from a buddy but we never used it. It was cool for me and my brothers to set it up in the backyard and play in it though.
Lake Isabella is cool. Never been on the lake in a boat, just swimming. Been around there and upper kern quite a bit. Great fishing and hunting up there. When you get up north of the lake it is all NF land.
I'll be up there next month.
We stay here http://www.rivernook.net/ Its in kernville, just north of isabella. The campground is right on the river and we fish from our campsites. There is NF campsites that have a day use fee or you can just pick a spot in the NF.

This guy just reported on his trip up there.

      Thanks for the info Dave.

I think I'm taking my girlfriend and her 12 year old son up there next weekend for an overnighter to see how he is out camping. I'm fond of a spot further up in the mountains but I'm assuming it's all still snowed in and I want to try some fishing.

No shooting in national forest though right?

Most NF's are "target shooting in designated areas only" or some such. If they have any shooting areas they're usually listed on their website.

Check with the ranger station in Kernville for shooting areas.

The "power plant" north of kernville is good fishing, but thats no secret
