Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I wasn't thinking so much about showing up at your door, but there is plenty of ways of taking control of all your assets. I don't think the population would stand a chance against the government if it came down to it, but likely it will be a little at a time, not all at once...Comment

if I had money to buy gold/silver I would buy small coins easy to carry/hide.
You could buy small gold coins the size of a dime/penny and paint them to look like a penny or worthless to camouflage them.
Being to broke to buy gold/silver I try to stock up on food/coffee & I currently live in a place that if teotwawki does happen I'll be ok - we have water, fuel, and are surrounded by wilderness filled with deer, wild horses, cattle ... it wouldn't be a wonderful life but we wouldn't starve. I could earn my keep by keeping Californians out of the valley, the secret password is "two weeks" I'll let you in if you know it.NRA Life MemberComment

If you buy gold and/or silver be sure and purchase it from somebody who does not put your name on an invoice. That's not the whole answer but its part of it. Then, anybody clever enough to buy gold and silver should be clever enough to find a good hiding place for it.I wasn't thinking so much about showing up at your door, but there is plenty of ways of taking control of all your assets. E-Bay could be your friend !If the US dollars collapse, how do people use gold or (and) silver as "currency"? The gold & silver would be big bars or coins, right.
Let's say you need to buy some toilet paper, food or shoes for the kids. Would toilet paper cost 2 oz of gold? And if all you have is 10 lb bar of silver, do you shave off off some to pay for goods?
When you buy precious metal, does it get delivered to your house or do you just buy & the company just sends you a piece of paper saying you own 2000 lbs of gold.
How does it all work? So many questions on my mind? Can someone shed some light? Thanks.
I know Chinese buy gold jewelery (24K) & keep at home or bank safe deposit box. 18K or less are not the first choice for Chinese as they are considered not "pure". How much of this is true or is it all housewife tales?
