That is what is most important. Have him getting eaten up may cost you more in the long run.

You dont need a bowl for them. They can eat off the ground, and drink out of puddles and streams etc.

No need to put his stuff in your bag, get a dog backpack so he can carry his own stuff

Not a good idea, as giardia can be bad news, better to let them drink clean water.

Personally, I think something that licks its own ***, is safe from giardia.....

My Service Dog is on Frontline for ticks, he get's it once a month in winter, but in the summer time when we are outdoors more he get's it every 3 weeks. Never had a problem..

There are a lot of collapsable bowls that weigh next to nothing, you can use 1 for food and water. I also like to bring a 50' cable lead with me. When we are in camp he get's that and can explore a little farther. It's easy to shorten to if need be.
I'm ready for this craziness to be over...

You know, actually I am not. Ive seen my dogs drink out of black puddles before (because it was all that was available), stagnate with bugs. You know what, they didnt get sick. But my dogs are working dogs and drink what they can, when they can. Just like people, I have drank out of some nasty alkali puddles that I had to push the bugs away to get water from, havent gotten sick.

Must be like mexicans, doesnt bother them to drink the water in mexico, might kill you though.

Actually you are, I know plenty of people whose dogs have gotten giardia, I work with dogs and thats a HUGE problem. My dogs drink out of my creek all the time, haven't gotten it yet, does that mean they can't? No. If preventable will I stop them? Yes, why take risks when you don't need to? If your dog gets it, its very for you to get, especially when camping or shtf.

You do know its not bugs that give it to you right?
