SHTF, you need to pick a rifle and handgun...

    SHTF
    It just happened!!!
    The Zombies are in mass.
    Chaos ensues!

You throw your BOB on your back and grab your rifle and handgun.
    Which rifle do you grab?
    Which handgun do you grab?

    Your limitations are this....

    Rifle ammo 2 lbs.
    Handgun ammo 1 lb.

Based on these limitations, what would you grab?

Since 308 is twice as heavy as 223, then you would have 1/2 the ammo as 223.
You would have a boat load of 22LR
What about a 38 spl rifle and revolver?
You would have 3 lbs of 38 spl.

You have to base your weapon on the weight of the ammo.

        AR, Glock 17

AR because it will be easier to find parts and the 17 because of high capacity assault clips

          Ok...Ok...

You made me weigh some of my ammo....

I've decided my accurate bolt Marlin 25MN with scope and 180 rounds of .22 Magnum for the rifle. (2 pounds) (this thing is dead nuts accurate and is a surprisingly fast action shooter)

And my FN 5.7 X 28 pistol with 65 rounds of ammo. (1 pound)

          A nice lite weight package.

(of course my Wife and boys will be toting the rest of the package)

          (Mini or AK/GLOCKs etc)

How many rounds are in 2 lbs of 22 magnum?

            Edit:
            I just saw, 180 rounds.

Sit tight for a day or so. Climb fence to neighbors house and break window. Take all his guns, ammo, food to supplement mine. Repeat as needed.

BTW - The zombies always come when you are not near your guns.

When your limited by weight, it changes things a bit doesn't it?

M&P 15-22 and my keychain container of pepper spray. I like to travel light so that I can outflank and outrun the Zombies instead of fighting them.

                        WHAT I HAVE:

Glock 17 and Ruger Scout. Not sure on ammo, but probably not too much.

                        WHAT I WANT:

A super reliable Kel Tec RMR 30 and PMR 30. 270 rounds of .22 Mag in reserve and interchangeable mags.

With a two point limit what can you get? Who wants to roll around with only 75 round of .555 but at the same time in that event you would need prob a .223 or higher.

I would be forced to go with .22. The bigger bullet isn't worth it for that much with less ammo.

                            I take my marlin 1894SS .44 mag. And my S&W 629 classic.
Now I have 3 lbs. of the same ammo.
                            or
                            M1A & 1911
                            or
                            AR or Mini 14 & Glock 19
                            or
                            Marlin 1894c .38/.357mag & S&W 686+ w/2 lbs. of .357 and 1 lb. of .38

It all depends on where I am and at what distance I am shooting. I expect most encounters to take place @ 200 yards or less with most in the 50-100 yard range.

I will also add that half of all ammo would be hollowpoint if available maximizing the number of rounds available.
