I watched an older doc called "Dark Days" which is about homeless people who have sought refuge in the tunnels of the NY subway system. They gathered plywood and junk and put together "houses" - many having electricity, running water and food prep.
Some of the homeless people devised "alarm systems" that tripped pots and pans that would awake them if there was an intruder, and many kept dogs to keep intruders and rats out.
They took pride in their "houses" and kept them as clean as possible.
For money, they would come up to the city and do what they could to earn it - most of the time trading found items and collecting cans for redemption. They would also collect thrown out food, check to see if it was "clean", bring it back and prepare it.
Got me thinking - I've spent a few decent dollars on BOB's and emergency preparedness, have done a lot of research and learned some good things. I'm very competent with my weapons, in extremely good physical condition and I think my wife and I would do okay if the SHTF.
HOWEVER! The wife and I would be such amatuers compared to these people - and it's embarrassing to say that 90% of them are crackheads!
Ever look at a homeless person in this sort of way? After all - many survive year round - and I do have respect for them in that sense (aside from regular respect for them as human beings). It's a shame that so many are addicts - probably can teach someone like me a thing or two.
