Dutch Oven ?

Here are some Dutch Oven web sites that seemed to have good info:
Byron's - Introduction To Dutch Ovens
Dutch Oven Dude
Chuckwagon Supply (where I ordered mine, they are real friendly)
Lodge Cast Iron Cookware - America's Original Cookware
Volcano Grills - The Best Outdoor Portable Cooker (designed for Dutch Oven use)
Has anyone used the GSI Outdoor Hard Anodized Dutch Ovens? Do you prefer cast iron to aluminum (or vice-versa) and why?
I'm new to Dutch Ovens so I thought it might be easier to start with an aluminum one rather than deal with cast iron (easier to clean, don't have to worry about seasoning). They are lighter and could work for backpacking. I ordered a 10" one and when it came I found it was warped: the lid would not sit flat. Chuckwagon Supply is sending a replacement and I haven't received it yet. If I can manage to cook a few things with it then I'd like to pick up a deeper 12" that could do more baking, but I don't know whether I should stick to aluminum or go with cast iron at that point.Comment

Also in general (to any reader), I don't worry about pre-seasoned models. I can do that myself, just takes heat and ghee (IMO best seasoner, I never apply anything else to my cast anymore). I don't even care if it is a DESTROYED piece of cast used to heck. I just wirewheel it or sand blast it to bare metal and re-season. Better than brand new.
Just don't try to stick weld cast if it cracks ;pComment

You want to get the ones by Lodge. The pre-seasoning's nice (although not critical) but they're the only ones made in the US at this point and Chinese cast iron is kind of iffy for cooking - heavy metals, etc.
They're handy - you can cook pretty much anything in one, indoors, outdoors if you get the camping style with the rimmed lid and the feet, and they last forever if you take care of them.Comment

INGSOC comes to America.
Sip your Victory Gin folks, time's are a changin'
Time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, A time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you

definitely have to worry about heavy metals. The Chinese put a bunch of Fe in their cast mix.Comment

I bought the Browning branded camp chef dutch oven and it has been great!
I don't think i paid that much for it though.....
the lid fit much better on the oven than the skillet but its really a non-issue for mex2
