Camping Season almost here! Looking for a campsite in So Cal.

Finally camp season is almost here! I wasnt able to go last year due to some health problems with my dog that literally kept me from going on any vacation for 4 months or so. We are trying to plan our first trip of the year we are looking for a campground that accommodates these activities within the vicinity of the campgrounds...

    1) Fishing
    2) Hiking/ Backpacking
    3)Shooting
    4) Dog Friendly
    5) Somewhat smaller or secluded campsite. ( Cant stand those huge campsite)

Usualy we go up to Lee Vining, Independence, and everywhere in between. But we have a feeling the Sierras may be little too cold in late april. So we are looking for somewhere we can do some fishing, maybe drive somewhere secluded 10-15 minutes away to posssibly do some shooting. And hiking or backpacking. We were maybe thinking of doing a 3-5 mile backpacking hike, and stay overnight and then head back to our main camp the next day.

Any suggestions on a campsite like this? I know there are plenty in the sierra area. But we may have to wait a little for that. We are looking anywhere in so cal to central California. Any tips or help would be great!

Almost here? I have already been out camping three times this year.
Wish I could help you with the so cal thing but its a little far from my stomping grounds.

No fishing in Joshua tree, but it is amazingly gorgeous.

Good luck with the fish. Oh, and no shooting since it's a National Park.

Seriously though, if you find such a place let me know. I like going up near Monache Meadows, but I'm sure that's completely snowed in still. I may make a drive up that way one weekend to check though.

Kern River is awesome, but what is the current river condition? Also, is it still under snow?

Another for kern.In the spring we usually just stay at a campground on the upper kern near mcnallys.

In the summer we head 45 min north to a more secluded spot.

We usually camp along Kern River and you can do some shooting at down at Lake Isabelle.

So wait, can you shoot or not around there? We don't mind driving 15 minutes away or so from camp. But we def don't want to go to a gun club or range or something. We we'd would like to do some outdoor shooting.

there is a place on the upper kern called chaulkin flats i think. its right before mcnallys restraunt and its free to camp there. there are no hook ups but its reall nice. just make sure you get your fire permit online.
