Yes!
Go to survivalresources.com
John McCann will not sell inferior product. There are many misch metal steels, but he will only sell the best, stuff that doesn't wear easily.

I have a bunch of his stuff and use it to build my own mini survival kits (like this one that I whipped up for a ZombieSquad E&E kit contest). For firesteel I like his mini-match shown here. I keep one in my pocket at all times attached to my knife, have them on all of our car key rings, one with each stove, etc. One of the larger models might be better if you plan to routinely use it on lots of camping trips.
Have fun browsing his web site and don't be surprised if you end up with one of every thing he sells in your shopping cart.Comment

REI, Lite My Fire, works just fine.sigpic
INGSOC comes to America.
Sip your Victory Gin folks, time's are a changin'
Time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, A time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you

I've tried a bunch of them, though not survivalresources.com, and this has been, by far, the best:

For their size/weight performance, I have gone over to these:
Throws about as good a spark as my BlastMatch, is easier to operate one handed, and includes a few tinder bundles in something smaller/lighter than pretty much everything I have seen.
The one handed operation made me think a lot. If one arm was injured, I could easily start a fire with this. Try to use the others one-handed. Most I have tried are a bit difficult to keep on top of the tinder bundle without throwing pieces everywhere when you try to strike them.Comment

http://firesteel.com Great site!
I keep one on my keychain
Best thing you can have with you is a film canister or altoids tin full of vaseline covered cotton balls, your firesteel & a striker! Those covered cotton balls take a spark and burn like a candleLast edited by jeffrice6; 03-22-2011, 1:17 AM.WTB: S&W 617 4" 10 shot Pre-LockComment

I use a Kershaw Fire Starter, its the same as the Scout Firesteel and it has been great! I keep an empty prescription medicine container filled with vaseline cotton balls. Each ball burns for about 3-4 min.Comment

these have been the best fire steels i've ever used.
Misch Metal are the best fire steels.

Ferrocerium is best, imo.
That AMK one handed starter was designed by Oak Norton years ago and is known as a spark-lite. It was later included by Doug Ritter in his survival for sale through AMK. AMK has now gone off and started making them, cutting out Doug Ritter, it appears.
I have two Brass Spark-lites. They are pretty sweet, but sadly not available.
John McCann of survivalresources.com is a personal friend of Oak's and carries the Sparklite along with the tinderquik, which is superior to vaseline impregnated cottonballs and is waterproof and does not need a special container for storageComment

Surprisingly the best i've used is a $1.69 fire steel from meritline. They pop up on slickdeals like once a month. It's a magasium flint and it comes with a striker.
Best $2 bucks I've ever spent LOL. I buy them everytime they come on.The stuff that goes boom.Comment

I'll second the firesteel.com I bought a few of these.
I keep one in every vehicle and BOB.
The Gobsparks are great - you can get your hand on them easy.
