Turmoil in the Middle East is a strong component of rising oil cost, thereby resulting in higher gasoline prices.
I've been seeing $3.90 for the good stuff (California)
    Possible $5-6 by this summer.

My favorite ice cream bar went up in price from $1.69 to $1.89
12 ounce can of soda at work, from $0.85 to $1.00.
Other food prices are beginning to inflate.

QE2, Quantitative Easing, which is the printing of money by the Federal Reserve, thereby causing inflation.

i dont know where your at but in downtown la gas (i was there a day ago) is almost $5

China is grumbling about the US Federal Reserve Note (the dollar) as the world reserve currency. They are calling for a different reserve currency that could possibly be a basket of currencies and commodities: Gold, Silver, Yuan, Ruble, Oil and a few others. I think the Yen is in there, not the dollar.

Middle East turmoil. When a ruler falls, you never know what is going to happen. Economic and political instability will continue.
One could add that terrorism, Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran could be added to the pot of unrest in that part of the world.

PIIGS, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain are at the brink of economic collapse. High unemployment, national debt and etc...

Germany and other EU countries have recently talked about pulling out of the union. They have yet to do this, but they have talked about it in the past. Consider that they are "saber rattling" from an economic standpoint. In other words, they want the EU to become economically stable or they will back out of the EU.

England is having their own issues, inflation, cost of education and etc...

The United States seems to have had the concept of Civic Virtue put on the back burner. If you are unsure what this means, read The Fall of the Roman Empire. The theory is that the decline of civic virtue was a component of the fall of the Roman Empire.

    So what do you think?

Is a SHTF situation below, on or above the horizon?
I dont know about where your at but here in la downtown its almost $5gal.

Never again only good gas goes in my toyota.

I never waited in line for gas accept to drain my service truck and welder each night at the end of shift. But, I do remember the horror storys from those less fortunate and driving past all the saps waiting in lines that went way down the street. I was on a operating engineer, repair crew who were REQUIRED to be at work on time. Management, all the way to the top, knew about the routine: fill the tanks at the company pump in the morning and drain them at night. Some of the guys would "borrow" aluminum gas tanks taken from wrecked mixers and tractors. They buried them in the back yard for safety and used a hand pump to fill up. Capacity of those tanks is about 60 gallons. I now keep my FJ40 (34 gal), Nissan (13 gal) and F150 (30 gal) at least half full and no more than 30 gallons in cans. In a pump down situation the gas will be for the Nissan and generator primarily. After a severe eathquack the FJ40 can roll where ever I am needed to help out.

There was this thing going on called 'stagflation'. This is nothing in comparison. I saw a guy dragged from his car and beat silly by a crowd when he cut into a line at a gas station in 1973. I had just come out of a gun shop across the street from the station and saw the fighting. I went back inside and bought another box of ammo. You need some historical perspective before you think that this is the end or even close.

I just did a quick google search and find used aluminum tanks, 100 gallon, for $250 - $350. Check out the big rig wrecking yards.

Oil at 102 today. The economy will soon start to contract and of course consumer spending will slow.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.
