I don't know the specifics but I think there are some decent areas out near Lincoln.

You can try Spenceville. Get there early, before the gang bangers show up and get all tacticool and sweep the line.
Have a fun, safe time here. Free place to shoot, bring your own targets, but there is usually some trash to shoot at. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7Vkwgfa6S0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gzzvBp02u8

Lincoln Rifle Club might be a better choice...

      Or SacValley...

How big is the spencville shooting area? Is there lots of private lands around it? Any shaded areas or is it just plain open terrain

Spenceville is pretty much wide open. Zero to no shade. Not sure about the lands surrounding it, but it you get there early enough you can grab one of the park benches and set up. It looks like this:

Hard to see, but there's different distances set up (kind of) and pretty good backstops. I haven't been there in a long time, since I really just prefer to go to SacValley.
