    Change the font size.

Found a free mp3 to wma converter for podcasts.

Download this software. Install and say no to 1st two "extra" things it wants to change or install. Pick only wma support and the mp3/wma converter. Thats it! It will reduce the size of an mp3 by up to 80%. That means podcasts can be reduced in size and more can be stored.

If you want to view a PDF on a Kindle you need to "import" it into Mobipocket pocket desktop and then "send" it to the kindle. For some reason I then had to move it by hand to my documents folder. Then I was able to view the converted PDF in one screen with adjustable font size. Before conversion you just see a picture and its very tiny. You can enlarge it but then you have to pan back and forth to see the whole page.

Mobi will convert the pdf to a .prc file.
I'm pretty sure the newest versions do not require anything to view pdf files on them. I just got one for Christmas, and all I do is copy them from a folder on my desktop. No need for all that other mess. You can adjust the screen size through the Kindle's font menu, no conversions needed.

View a pdf with or without pictures and tell me if you can read it at 20% sizing.

Its like surfing the internet though a 2" screen on a droid. Either you size to fit which makes it a -23 font or you increase size to view it and the page doesnt fit.

I just found a new conversion tool to keep the pictures and pages intact.

According to the Specifications, and a few articles I've read, the Kindles support pdf files natively, i.e. no conversion required.

At least the ones being sold now. I can't speak to versions from other years.

Hand crank is good but solar is a no-go in case of nuclear winter. Actually hand crank might not be so hot if the zombies eat your hands. Better get a foot pedal generator as a backup just in case. Probably better than a kindle though would be some sort of android pad. Because a kindle's just a captive book reader, whereas a android pad would let you access the linux operating system via command line and you could thereby program it for calculations and stuff. Think ballistic trajectories for your home-brew trebuchet or catapult, that sorta thing.

Kindles use VERY little current. They are also extremely light and sturdy.

An android pad would consume a crap-load of juice, be heavy to lug around, and would break or become unusable a lot more easily.

Android apps are amazing though. But in a SHTF I don't think I-Phones are going to have much value over say,.. toilet paper.

I need to correct you I have used an I-phone as toilet paper after a hard night drinking.

The issue with pdf's is how and on what version they were created. Early pdf's were really just images while newer versions it runs an OCR scan of them, making it so you can adjust the text size on the Kindle.

Good to see you came around, despite it being from a "communist company". ;-)

Drug Use and Interaction Reference would be another good title. My Dr. friend has one on his laptop, have to check.
