    Target Shooting Public Lands

    Hey all,

I'm sure this question comes up a lot, but I didn't see any recent information and I couldn't post a new thread in the San Diego Community group.

Does anyone have fresh info on shooting on BLM lands around San Diego and El Cajon? It's kinda hard understanding the info on BLM maps, so if anyone could share some spots or areas with a new shooter, that'd be much appreciated.

Call your local BLM field office. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Maybe it was just the person I talked to, but they just wanted me to come down and buy one of the map sets. :\

I've actually been looking for the exact same information for BLM shooting east of San Diego and have experienced the same thing. Nobody on the phone ever seems to know anything, but they always try to sell maps.

When I ask about the maps (because I'm not driving way the hell up the 15 just to find out it's a tourist map), they have no idea if it contains information relevant to target shooting.

You have to remember that the BLM does not set any shooting regulations for BLM land.
Shooting regulations are set by county ordnance for unincorporated areas and by municipal code for incorporated cities. Find out what sheriff station has jurisdiction in the area your interested in, and call them.

This is an excellent point. Even though BLM is federal land the local LE dept. has jusisdiction!

If you don't mind putting in sweat equity in exchange for directions to 'secret' BLM shooting locations, check out the range clean-up subforum.
