    Bug-In training simulation

Would you take a 2-week vacation from work to practice bugging-in for 14-days?

No electricity, no gas, no nothing.
Take the 14-days to stay in your home because there has been a natural disaster. You cannot leave, but you can roam around your neighborhood.

    Anyone try it?

interesting idea, but the simulation of hard work and the stress of confrontation would not be there.

I like the idea of cooking without the oven/stove for 2 weeks straight! Would indoor plumbing be an option, or would you have to get water from a pool or river before you could flush!

There would be some difficulty flushing the john, but it is possible. If there was no water pressure, the choices would be a pit latrine or flush with water you have gathered.
As they say, "If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down"

Granted, confrontation would not be there, but I would propose pulling simulated guard duty or walking the neighborhood for security.
4-hours on and off if you are with somebody or set-up an alarm system. The test would be when you are alerted when the mailman arrives.

It would be interesting but there is no way in hell my wife would be down for it with a 4 month old baby and a 5 year old. We could do it but it would be a challenge.

Most people will have an eye opening experience if they just did it for a weekend. Thats what I tell anyone who asks about "being prepared", "SHTF prepardness", etc. Throw your main electric breaker and water main off when you get home from work on friday, and don't turn it back on untill you get home from work on Monday. You'll figure out pretty quick what works, what doesn't, how to deal with it.

I think I might try it as well, but I am going to prepare with what I think I would need first. Right now all I need is a considerable supply of water. Living in an apartment makes it much more difficult, at least I think it does.

"but I would propose pulling simulated guard duty or walking the neighborhood for security" when the wack job alert goes up amongst the neighbors, you might become more alone than planned. Or, of course, things could always reverse if LEO shows up in response to complaints of wacko behavior. You know who they are, they are the introvert paranoids who peak out from behind the blinds at their neighbors as they simulate guard duty as usual.

I wouldn't do it mainly because it's a pointless waste of vacation time without the actual carnage of distruction strewn about, the wounded and maimed, looter confrontationn, the smell. Where's the challenge when ultimately you know that you're safe and healthy. You can't simulate chaos when you can turn it off when ever you want. PAX

A long weekend might be okay, if I've got 14 days off I'll practice bugging out though, not bugging in. Time off is much better spent up in the mountans than hanging out at the house.

A lot of the stuff could be done while still working and keeping your normal schedule. Cooking, bathing, etc can all be tested with no running water and no power. It's certainly an eye opener.
