Looking to buy used ultralight backpacking gear.

Finally went on an overnight (2 night) backpacking trip into Desolation Wilderness and am now hooked. I'm now realizing that my current gear ain't going to cut it if I make this a hobby.

I'm looking for an ultralight backpack (Have Kelty Super Tioga), Tent (Have a 6.5 lb two man), and sleeping cushion (Mine's comfy, but a beast). I'd also be interested in other lightweight gear, and maybe a warm/lightweight jacket.

    Anyone looking to sell?

I cant help with gear, but where in Desolation did you go? I just hiked in there with a friend yesterday. We went from Echo Lakes to Lake of the Woods, and then around Lake Aloha over to Mosquito Pass. Beautiful country up there.

Help define what you are looking for...

Do you want lightweight camping gear or ultralight camping gear?

Ultralight camping is where you can use a 9 ounce tarp for a tent and a 1 ounce converted soda can for a stove and cut the handle off your toothbrush to save 1/2 an ounce. If you enjoy the technical side of camping you might check out the ultralight camping websites (like http://www.the-ultralight-site.com/)

I know you are looking for used, but you may want to spend the extra money to get an awesome product.

What size are you, Edge? I have a softshell jacket made for me by Beyond Fleece that I'm not planning to use. I've had this for a few years and used it, maybe, 4-5 times. Very clean. I'm 6'0" (with 34" sleeves) and about 190 lbs.

Even if you're not interested in my stuff, look into a softshell jacket if you're going to be spending serious time in the backcountry. Another thing to consider is a merino wool long sleeve tee shirt or light sweater. Either of these will fit under the softshell for insulating purposes. A lightweight down sweater or vest for when it's really chilly and you're set.

Not selling my tents, but I like the low cost, light weight stuff from Kelty and feel it's a good value.

Have a look at backcountry.com outlet. There some nice deals there from time to time: http://www.departmentofgoods.com/#bco_popup

            I'm pretty short. 5'3", 140 lbs.

I guess I'm looking for a combo of ultralight and light. Trying to get my pack weight down from 40 lbs to closer to 30.

We went from Fallen Leaf Lake to Lake Gilmore, with a day hike to Half Moon Lake (Friggen beautiful! Going back there for sure.) and a night hike to the top of Mt. Tallac to watch July 4th fireworks over the lake.

You can probably come close to your 30 pound goal by frequenting ultralight backpacking sites and paring down your gear list by eliminating unnecessary stuff and selecting multi purpose items. After a few trips refining your gear and knowledge base you can start substituting lighter stuff. Purchasing a new pack last is a really good idea which ensures it will be a good fit for your new gear. Thinking of it as an evolutionary rather than revolutionary process saves a lot of grief and unnecessary purchases.
I was talking with my older brother last weekend about scout trips in the 70's and he remembers his pack weighing 30 pounds or so for a multi day trip. My dad then commented on how he and the other scouts were always hopping around in their sleeping bag and my brother said that was because they only had a sweater for cold weather and wearing the sleeping bag was the only way to stay warm. Definitely pared down and multi use.

Just bought a Patagonia Micro Puff Vest, lightly used, for $10 including shipping on eBay today!

Still looking for a used lightweight tent, pad, and pack.

Your gear can only get light for X amount of ducats. To shave off 10 lbs. in gear weight alone will be a tough hoe to row with used gear acqusitions. Buying used, I presume you're funds are limited. A down sleeping bag will cut your poundage per temp rating, versus synthetic by a third or more, but will cost twice as much, and you'll need a solo tent or bivey to keep the bag dry. "Ultralight" backpacks start at $300 and up, may be save 2#. Here's some of my crew, half of the gear you see is some old school and modern stuff of mine. The idea is to get out there, we've concentrated on filtration, cookware, stoves and sleeping pads/chairs, for necessary items, and every one has their own trinkets they like to bring. We only get out for 3-4 days each outing, but as a group, we are on trail 10-14 times a year, starting as early as February, this shot is in April at 3700'. Happy trails PAX

Well, I managed to get a NorthFace kilo bag, down, 32F, 2.2 lbs, for $50 off a Calgunner here earlier this year.

I'm looking at a Bearpaw tarp/mesh tent combo $200 new, and a temp-a-rest prolite 3/4 pad for around $30. Finding a large capacity lightweight pack for cheap has been tough.

But still hoping a Calgunner might step up with some gear no longer needed.

Just a suggestion, before spending any more money on ultra light gear. Buy "Beyond Backpacking" by Ray Jardine. It's the best book on ultralight backpacking I've ever read. And He's all about saving money by not buying what you don't need. Biggest weight savers are ultra light tarp instead of tent and light pack. A good pack can be had for less than $100 and a tarp is about $80. Golight used to be a good brand but now even they are getting more complicated than needed. I bought my old golight pack for $80 and it weights about 1.5 lbs. No frame is needed if your pack weight is 15lbs or so. Ray is an advocate of keeping the pack weight so light you just sling it over your shoulder so your back doesn't get sweaty. Seriously though you should read the book if you haven't. That'll be the best money you ever spent.

Here's most of the stuff in my pack (as an example)
Golite Breeze pack (used ebay $30) (bit over 1.5 lbs, carries 20+ lbs comfortably)
Ridgerest short pad (used ebay $8) roll it up, place in pack and let unravel to create a padded semi-riged pack
Snow Peak 3pc titanium cooking set (used ebay $30)
                        Optimus Crux stove (ebay $35)
Equinox ultralight tarp (ebay $40) learn to use a tarp well and it's drier (less condensation) and more comfy than a tent
                        8pc titanium stake set ($10)
REI packable windbreaker (ebay $18 item #270585390177)
REI thermals (pick lightweight or midweight depending on season)
                        CRKT KISS knife (ebay $25)
                        Black diamond Gizmo headlamp ($20)
Photon II micro light ($5) (backup light)
Your subkilo bag is perfect (wear thermals to bed, use pack under legs to elevate feet off ground)
two nalogene bottles + iodine tablets
