Lake Amador or Clear lake camping, shooting?

So some buddies of mine want to plan a camping trip to Lake Amador or Clear lake, are there any available shooting spots in the vicinity of either? I know at least part of the area around clear lake is a state park, so that's probably a no-go, at least I think. I dunno, anyone got any info?

I know you can camp at Clear Lake. I've heard there's some duck hunting on one side of the lake but I don't think they allow general shooting. in the area of the State Park. 'twas a pity, as they had tons of Quail when I was there last.

I did try to book a camping trip up there in March but they had most of the campgrounds closed because of the budget mess. I believe Kelsey Creek was the only campground open which didn't appeal to me. Call up Reserve America if interested.

btw, here's the link to their website:

    and here's their brochure:

Last time I was at Lake Amador there were signs posted saying no shooting, no firearms.

But, the whole day we were trolling for trout, we could hear shooting in the hills.

There's quite a few houses pretty close by....

Hmm, sounds lame. Regardless of what random people like to do in the woods, I don't want to be the one to get caught if it's not allowed. So that's out of the question. Only in California can you plan an outdoor trip and be severely limited in things to actually do outdoors...

Lake almanor is surrounded by national forest wich allows shooting. There are a few rules like shooting around campgrounds and on marked roads. But pretty much drive away from the lake in almost any dirrection and you will find a place to shoot. Do some research there is unlimited things to in the national forests.Get off the computer and into the outdoors

You do realize the irony in your post, right?

Do some research... and get off the computer.

Just what exactly is it did you think I've been trying to do? If you read my post you'd realize I'm trying to do research regarding finding a decent camping area to get away from the damn computer. Instead I get flamed by a troll, go figure.

Look, the thing is, there's a lot of spots to go shooting, and lots of people know lots of spots, but no one ever wants to post anything about where they are. Just vague hints about digging through BLM maps with a GPS. Well too bad, I don't feel like spending hours digging through maps and guessing who owns what and what got updated and where some ranger has a bug up their rear about who can do what where. It's simply not what I asked. If you don't have any input, go away. I didn't ask about lake almanor, I asked about the areas around lake amador and clearlake. Lake almanor is nowhere near either of those places.

If you are going to Lake Amador, there is only shooting at Sac Valley, about 15 miles away, and up at Comanche Lake there is a sporting clays range. No shooting around Lake Amador. It is all private property. The sounds of gunfire someone heard was the fireworks factory across from the lake, or someone on their own land shooting. Too many houses close by. The locals don't take to kindly to someone showing up and shooting around the area, especially at the start of fire season.
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting
