    Glass Beach> Worth seeing?

Hey, I was thinking of going up to see this place:

Is it worth seeing? Is there anything else in fort Bragg worth seeing or doing?

It would be like a 3 or 4 hour drive for me.

It used to be very very full of glass, but everyone thought it would be a good idea to take a bucket home..............sadly most of the glass is gone and all that remains are rusted car parts.

It is not worth the trip to see Glass Beach, but i would still go for a nice drive on HWY 1. The town of Mendocino is a nice place to visit and the local campgrounds lice Caspar are nice too stay at. Also if the salmon fishing season ever returns you could charter a boat and go out for the day.

yep i got a bag of it its a shame its nearly all gone when i was like 12 we went there and there was nice rounded pieces a couple inches each

then when i went in my 20s aroun 1994 i was lucky to find any 1 inch in diam

now you are lucky to find any half inch in diam

i say they should close it down dump a bunch of broken bottles in and keep it closed for about 5 years

the thing is that its creation would never be allowed today they used to just dump the towns trash and burn i have chunks of glass that look melted cuase its kind of folded look not just the standard sand smooth

i think they also have a huge ice plant problem

Most of the glass that is in good sized chunks are brown. No one seems to want the brown glass.

I found a model t radiator cap cemented into a clump of what looked like sandstone. Brass clock gears, a cast iron cylinder head from something with two cylinders, lead pipes... all kids of crazy stuff down amongst the rocks next to the beach.

I'd only stop by if I was already in the area or passing through with enough time on my hands. The last time I was there (April 09) there weren't any signs posted limiting collection, but that's subject to change. The day after a good storm will always be better than during good weather. The locals are quick to collect...

I go up there 3x a year to see my in-laws. By itself, Glass Beach is not worth making the trip. If you have other reasons to go up there, then yes it is worth seeing while you are there. It's nowhere near as cool as it used to be.
