I'll cut your heart out with a spoon! Silverware is lethal too- in the right hands

Its not ideal, but it will get the job done-

uh, that was my point-the sharp thing at the end of the stick i am poking you with-

I just got a Marlin 70 PSS for my birthday and it's going to live with my get home bag. It fits nicely into my ATV's rear bag along with the GHB and extra winch line, tools, etc.

My most probable SHTF situation is breaking down deep in the forest, 20-30 miles from pavement. I suck at mechanics so I'll probably be hiking out. The gun is less about protection (at best the little bang might scare a bear if he doesn't back off as usual when yelled at) and more about being able to dispatch chipmunks, birds or squirrels for dinner.

This is a good read on the subject.

I'd have to say a .22 pistol is a must.

I've found myself needing to make extended stays in places I'd rather not more than a few times in my life. I have two ways of looking at things. I keep a Ruger Single Six in my truck along with about a weeks worth of food, extra clothing, warm blankets, canteen w/ water filtration system, camping gear, a good pack, and rain gear. I like that I have the ability to wait out a situation if it was to arise. That Single Six is an ultra reliable revolver that any member of my family can operate well. I keep an assortment of ammunition packed with it (.22 short, LR, magnum, and shotshell). It has served me well over the years.

If I know that I'm heading out for an "over-nighter" or a trip into a hostel area, I'll be packing my 1911 or a more substantial source of firepower along as well.

3 .22 rounds in the same hole with little recoil ,noise or scene i think is more effective then
a big bang and missed target if it was me i'd def consider ruger 10/22 with folding stock.

                  S&W 41

The S&W 22A mentioned in the read is not the same as the match grade S&W 41. The 22 A is a cheaper (as opposed to lower cost) knock off version of the model 41. Don't confuse them.

Not to worry, I'm a Ruger fan, but I cannot decide on the MkIII or the 22/45- my MKII has about 1million rounds through it...

The Navy Seals and others use the Ruger for training purpose. I believe they switched from the S&W 41 a few years ago because of cost. Both are great pistols.
