Who is ready for a hike for real men?

I am going on this hike the first weekend in May. There is no pass or permit required. This hike is one of the most popular and strenuous one day hikes in all the continental United States. At least that is what people say. I hiked Mount Whitney last year in August and am ready for another challenge.

Is anyone interested in going with me? You can ride with me if you are on the way. I have 5 people signed up from my work to do this hike.

Whitney was 22 miles in a day at high elevation but not as high of elevation gain.

Here is a link. Tell me what you think.

That sounds brutal and a little out of the old fat dudes' league. Another "serious only need apply" trip, is on the east side of the Sierras to the Palisades Glacier (White Mountains?). The largest glacier in Kali, 26 miles of constant climbing. This one you can break up into 2 days, it's on my bucket list.

I have done whites mountain and loved it. It is another 14er but no shade on that hike. It was fun and it was a good warm up for whitney.

Palisade glacier is not in the White Mountains, it's in the Sierra. I hiked the trail there several years ago with my family backpacking and the trail and lakes were scenic, but the mosquitos horrendous.

Um...not I. I'm not sure if it was the "hike-at-your-own-risk", the fact you travel through four climatic zones, the ice chute, or the snakes, ticks, and scorpions that did it.

Have fun though, sounds like a great experience for those with the ability and skill.

Whitney is brutal. I trained for 3 months and got my *** kicked. I made it to 11.4k and had such a bad headache I quit and went back down. My boots were leaking and my water filter broke as well. I was hiking in the snow and it was slow going.

I admit it was brutal but I made it.

Doing Whitney twice this summer (I hope). Only got day hike permits, but want to try to get an overnighter in. Can't wait. I too will be hitting White Mountain to help acclimatize.

I have done it once. It is a very nice route but I thought it was much more challenging.

I did 11 miles round trip at San Gorgonio. That was a ball buster (and only 11,500), although it was our first time overnight hiking and our packs were way too heavy. How long did the Mountaineer's route take you? I think I'm going to attempt just showing up at Whitney during the week in late July or early August to try to get a no-show permit for an overnighter. If we don't get it, at least we can hike Mt. Russell or some other flavor.

                              Long hike

Wife and I did the Half Dome hike at Yosemite not long after we were married. Can't remember the details, but it's something like 20 miles round trip with something like a 9000 foot elevation change (there and back).

Very long hike, but the most humbling thing was to watch the occasional "mountain joggers". One lady passed us on her way up. She ran all the way to the top, turned around and passed us going the other way before we were even half way up.
