Too far for me, otherwise I'd join you.

I'm an avid backpacker, all my gear and my crews gear has thoroughly been througth the acid test. Where ever you go, try to include some "up". In Joshua Trees, try the Mastadon Peak loop. We work over the Central Sierras and will be making our second trip this year this weekend up to the Middle Fork of the Merced. You need a crew

Seems as though a couple of you guys are too far north (i.e. Sacto area) for this on the 1st.
Well so am I, so lets set up something for us northerners. This is just the sort of thing that lets you know what you need, and what you want.
I've also got a couple of buddies (fire, LE) who would prolly be interested as well.Comment

I have been hiking to test out a new bag and myself. To do this I took my backpack and loaded it with 30lb. 2000ft elevation 3miles up 3miles down. I was also conditioning for a hunting trip I have in a few months. What I learned my back pack is Uncomfortable! Have sore hips where the hip belt goes. It will get its job done as a b.o.b. But defiantly will not take it on a hunting trip.
Also learned that I may need a smaller boot size. Without weight the hike is no problem on my feet. With weight going uphill is no problem, but going downhill my feet were screaming.
If anyone in the bay area does anything like this I will be down to go.Comment

That sounds like a lazy one day hike. Slackers imho. Granted most of my hikes lately are very low pack weight. Think tablets and meal bars. I don't even have a real pack anymore just an over sized backpack with belly strap.
Where are you going? I'm about 8 miles or so from you.
