camp/shoot trip

Getting the bug to go camping and shooting. Can anyone recommend any places to do both. I'm in Long Beach and was thinking of heading out north of Barstow to the BLM land. I haven't really explored out that way to much though. I would like to get away from the crowds and day trippers and find something secluded that I can hike to and not have to worry about seeing other people out there.

I know nobody wants to give up their secret spots but maybe someone can help put me on the right path. Thanks for all your help. Will post some pics upon return!

Hi barbasol it's PAX, I've hooked up with this site. The Echo1 crew has been up into the Stanislaus Forest already, Dianna Falls at the confleuence of Bean Creek & the North Fork of the Merced. Can't give you any help in the southern hemisphere that I've personally been to, but check out Poncho Dolls' book "Day trips with a splash-The swimming holes of California", www.running-water.com. The access to some of the places he details are through public lands and he includes topos. You don't need to use the end destination he describes, but you should be able to car camp or walk in at or near the trail head. Research the shooting part for the area use choose, same with BLM, some time's there's restrictions. This is some of my crew at Dianna Falls last April while I was pig hunting. It's at the SW border of the Stanislaus NF and BLM dirt.

Alright PAX! God to see you here at CG. That pic looks amazing. I would love to try my hand at pig hunting. Me and my buddy have been talking about it for little while now. I just got my SKS too. I'll post some pics here and on the other place.

I thing we have settled on a place I read about here on another post. Up off the 395 close to Ridgecrest. I'll let you know how it goes.
