I'm on by mobile right now but if you Google for this in San Jose there's a surplus store by Valley Fair. I'll edit my post later to add the info.

There is a real small one in Berkeley on San Pablo, between Gilman and University.

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

2nd that one, it's bigger than it looks from outside and is packed with goodies.

I'd recommend going there mid morning however, no traffic and in the afternoon the code pink and other such types start to come out in the street. They used to give a couple friends of mine a bunch of crap because they would wear bdu trousers and had crew cuts.

Go in the morning and don't dress tactical and you'll be fine.

Mt. View Surplus is OK, although I've never really found anything that exciting there. I picked up some over-priced ammo cans and MREs there, but not much else. I came across a good outdoor store this past weekend. It's called the Redwood Trading Post in Redwood City on El Camino Real. The have a decent selection of Benchmade knives, a very well stocked camping section (Primus, Optimus, MSR, Jetboil, GSI, Nalgene, Kleen Canteen, Adventure Medical, Mountain House, North Face, etc), water barrels in various sizes, Carhartt work clothes and so on. I thought their prices were pretty decent as well. Anyway, I plan on going back to explore the store a bit more this weekend.

In Fremont, on Washington near the intersection of Fremont Blvd. Used to be Jack & Pats in the '60s & '70s, on Thornton in Newark. Now it's just "Surplus", and Jacks' still hangn' in there. It's ligit milsurp, NATO & Warsaw Pact. A few WWII, Korea, Nam era items & newer Gulf surp. One of the best true surplus stores left, buys from base warehouses. He has stuff carried over from the old place (14 yrs at previous spot - 17yrs in Fremont). Bayos, .45 mags & pouches, flight suits, lots of militaria. Used external frame backpacks of all makes and quality, survival gear, books and manuals. I think he was a pirate or sometin' like that back in the day. No guns.
