From the trail head, it can't be more than three miles round trip. If you were to start from where the dirt road leading into the trail head starts, that might be six miles, or more.

so now given that cleveland national forest encompasses black star and holy jim, and the area is otherwise unincorporated, does that mean loaded open carry is legal in those areas?
SCALIA: WTF are you talking about? We can incorporate it under due process. I hate due process and I even think that.
      GURA: Uhhh
SCALIA: Are you trying to get a job at a law school?
      GURA: ....Oh s***
SCALIA: SERIOUSLY STFU IF WE USE PRIVILEGES AND IMMUNITIES THESE F***OS WILL LEGITIMIZE EVERYTHING STFU STFU STFU
GURA: But you hate due process
      SCALIA: I LIKE IT NOW

If you have a hunting license it's always coyote season, yes?

So I called up the ranger station this afternoon and asked, the lady I spoke with said it's about 2.6 miles from the trailhead to the falls (one-way). Of course the trailhead is a bit of a walk from the parking lot.

There is one particular mine shaft to watch for if you have kids with you. Years ago it was clearly marked on the side of the entrance in spray paint "beware rabbit shaft" As I recall it was perched a little above the trail. I do not remember how far in it was.

I have not been up there since 1978. I spent many years up there dirt biking, shooting, quail hunting, ditching school, partying. During the heavy rains in
'78 I lost an orange Chevy truck just inside the road to the trailhead. I got it stuck in about 4 feet of mud and had no choice but to leave it. Two days later when the rain stopped I went back after it to find it picked clean of every single part possible, all in about a 36 hour span. I arrived to find a bare cab on top of two frame rails. Lessons learned the hard way, what can I say I was a typical dumb kid.

On another safety note for those taking kids, there are tons of poisonous plants up in there and also huge Rattle Snakes all over once it warms up a bit.
