    Camping pellet stove?

Hi! Looking for the suggestions for camping pellet stove, but drowning in options. Are the top-rated ones legit or just marketing gimmicks? Anyone regretting their pellet stove choice? And let's be real, do they live up to the hype on heat output? I'm torn between brands like CampChef and BioLite. Pellet pros, spill the beans ? your experiences might save a camping trip.

Are you talking about a grill/smoker?

I'm not sure I'd be interested in taking a pellet stove camping as a general purpose tool. Propane is more convenient, has more uses, and makes for a great burner set up. Wood fits the bill for both heating and cooking in other ways, and charcoal can be brought used as a one trick pony if you just can't deal with burning wood to coals and putting those coals in the Weber.

If you want to bring your pellet smoker to camp that's one thing, but if you're buying a camping specific set up, I just don't see any benefits to pellets unless you're the kind of person that just must have some specific wood mixture and already shows up to camp with camp fire wood, charcoal, and 10 different kinds of wood chips.

So why take a pellet stove? I'm genuinely curious. Outside of smokers (and specifically smokers with auto-hoppers that can automatically maintain your temp) why do you want a pellet stove? For heating a tent I can see some utility if you're in a place where you can't collect and process wood (and therefore have to bring your own in).

Unless there are burn restrictions in your area, I?d prefer to save weight and cook over an open fire.

( edit --- I just noticed OP is in Louisiana, not California )

        +1

6 months out of the year, you can only use a propane stove in California forests and open lands where most people will be camping. Winter campers can use pellet stoves.

I had looked for a small portable one for winter use, but they are all too big.

Camping pellet stove concept is right up there with a 308 pistol with a scope idea IMHO.

Again, I have no experience with pellet heating stoves for camping. That said, I have a normal wood burner (kni-co) I use for hot tent camping. In places where I can collect wood I just collect wood. In places where I can't I bring wood. I've not yet tried compressed sawdust blocks, but I've heard really good things about them and plan on getting a few. I imagine pellets would be about as easy.

If those stoves are legit and well built, that's a good price for a Ti stove. I'd skip the glass front, no point in having something that can break on the way to or from camp (especially on the way to).

Check out Planar Portable Diesel Heater.
              Run kerosene instead of diesel.
              Way easier to manage.

If you have a large motorhome or camper, pellet stoves/heaters can be useful. Pellets are cheaper than propane or liquid fuel. They don't pose an environmental risk when spilled. It wont explode is some leaks and there is a spark or heat source. The only down side is risk of starting a wildfire.

P.S. Thompson Center makes a nice 308 scoped pistol.

Agree on the Thompson but wouldn't use a pellet stove inside any of those areas period.

That's the beauty of a Planar heater. It sits outside the area being heated.
