I don't belong to any backpacking sites (because the obvious best one costs money), but CG braintrust is solid too.
I'm looking at hooded fleeces to add a breathable mid-layer option to my kit (in case I want to swap out my puffy). But when considering weight, I realize my rain jacket is not a light part of my kit at 9 ounces. If I'm looking at 10 ounce fleeces, it got me thinking maybe it's better to find a good insulated rain jacket and kill two birds with one stone. I'd want something:
<14.x oz
as warm as a fleece with a windshirt over it
solidly waterproof for sierra rains (not just a gentle city sprinkle)
pit zips for breathability
This combo would let me swap out both rain jacket and puffy together for 3 season. I can't find anything <14oz that gives me confidence it would be warmer than buying an Appalachian Gear All-paca hoodie. the All-paca + my current rain jacket would be 23 oz and breathe poorly (rain jacket has no pit zips). Probably warmer than my ghost whisperer tho.
Anyone have a light weight insulated rain jacket they like?
