Informal survey: Your favorite boondock camp handgun questions

A quick and informal survey about your method(s) of carry/use of a HANDGUN within your immediate and isolated ?boondock? campsite. Remember, within one?s own personal campsite and with a few exceptions, a firearm is still legal to possess either openly or concealed. On with the survey:

    1) When isolated out in the boonies and within your immediate campsite, what?s your favorite camp HANDGUN you prefer most? If you don?t bring a handgun, do you bring either a rifle or shotgun?

    2) In camp, do you carry your handgun on your person 24/7?

    3) If you carry in camp, do you open or conceal carry? Or just keep it secured inside the RV, truck, car or tent in the event you feel a possible threat looming?

    4) Does anyone else (spouse, teen, friends, other) in your camp party follow suit as you by having a handgun either on their person or secured nearby?

    5) What ammo do you prefer for your primary camp handgun(s) of choice?

    6) On isolated camping trips, do you also bring a rifle or shotgun? If so, what type?

    I?ll start:
My favorite camp handgun is either a Beretta 92FS, Glock 17 or 20 and I carry it on my person 24/7 in camp.

I prefer open carry in a belt pancake style holster, or sometimes concealed in a shoulder holster.

Usually neither my wife nor kids carry a gun on their person while in camp, unless I have to leave camp. Then my wife will carry a handgun, usually a Glock 19.

We have friends that go isolated boondock camping with us at times and none of them except one buddy carries on their person. The others all secure their guns in their tent/truck/or RV and that’s where their guns stay 24/7. (Sad).

Handgun Ammo is Federal HST 147gr 9mm or Underwood 200gr 10mm JHP.

Yes I always bring an AR-15, mini-30 or Mini-14 secured somewhere like the truck or RV.

      1) Colt .45 or Sig Sauer P227 SAS. I always have a rifle, a SOCOM 16 or a shotgun, Remington 870 Police Magnum.

      2) Yes, I carry all the time.

      3) I open carry, but will usually have a flannel shirt that covers the holster.

      4) I don't force anyone to carry, but I can't think of a friend who I have camped with that doesn't carry a handgun.

      5) Any major brand of hollowpoints. I am not particular on ammo.

      6) Yes, see #1 above.

I carry one of my 5 pistols on my CCW and often also have a Ruger RH in 44mag nearby
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I recently got a Henry in .41 mag, so I have that to go with my Blackhawk. Before that it was a Rossi .357 & a Rossi 92, before that it was a Beretta Jaguar and 10/22. I've also just carried a Beretta 92FS in a shoulder holster

          2) In camp, do you carry your handgun on your person 24/7?
          Yes

          3) If you carry in camp, do you open or conceal carry? Or just keep it secured inside the RV, truck, car or tent in the event you feel a possible threat looming?
In a cowboy western style holster with cartridge loops

          4) Does anyone else (spouse, teen, friends, other) in your camp party follow suit as you by having a handgun either on their person or secured nearby?
The Jaguar always goes if my spousal unit is along

          5) What ammo do you prefer for your primary camp handgun(s) of choice?
          HPs

          6) On isolated camping trips, do you also bring a rifle or shotgun? If so, what type?

Yes, 10/22, Rossi 92, Henry Big Boy, or SKS
Used to just take a 10/22 when near a rig, the Jaguar when backpacking. PAX

My fav camp guns are a Blackhawk and a Marlin lever. 45 Colt, 357 mag or 22LR.

No I don’t carry everywhere. I’m boondocking. Nature is seldom scary.

              1) Glock 29 or Ruger SP101 in 357.
              2) Almost always on me. If not sitting on the tailgate or table right near me.
              3) Usually carry OWB but probably semi concealed behind clothing.
              4) My hunting buddy will often carry his compact 1911, but not always.
              5) Usually copper hollow points because if I'm boondocking I'm usually hunting. If just a hiking trip it may be something else. I am aware that it doesn't have to be copper if I'm hunting, but that is what I prefer in case I end up using it on game.
              6) When hunting, I will have a rifle and/or shotgun. When on a hike-in fishing trip or something, no.
