The best sleeping bag ever… kept me toasty in 19*F in Kennedy Meadows.

For me, car camping in cold weather isn't so much about 'sleeping' warm. It's about whether it's cold enough overnight so that water spilled on the tent floor is frozen solid with a half hour and can simply be 'swept up' and tossed out the door; yet, 'warm' enough the next day that fish are caught.

At least that's how it worked for me in Northern New Mexico the last week of December 2000.

I haven't backcountry ski camped since the mid-1990's and while it was fun, I'm not confident I have that kind of coordination and stamina anymore. While I do have the pictures to prove it, there's this kind of persistent, ill-defined disquiet over not having something more recent to show. Then again, I'm not sure that 'disquiet' outweighs the 'discomfort' anymore associated with actually doing it.

A good cheap price sleeping bag to buy is an army extreme cold bought one 26 years ago it ended my cold nights in the deserts in back of my truck. Easily took low 30s and mid 30s more than a few times.

Last I used it I slept in car on seat vs setting up tent was 41 degrees I got too warm lol.

34 isn't very cold with even a tiny bit of preparation and gear, and a 25 degree bag typically means you'll survive at 25 but won't be comfortable.

Whenever I go on a trip in cold weather, I always bring a woman.

If you?re running any type of heat source make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector in the cabin

When I'm not in my travel trailer, I always go to bed with an empty LARGE Gatorade bottle. Saves me from getting out from under the warm sleeping bag

This is more for survival but carry candles and a empty coffee can. You?ll be surprised at how well it will warm up the inside of a car

Other than that a good insulating pad will help a lot. I also get thick wool socks. Lay or bundle your clothes inside the sleeping bag and in the morning they will be warm and ready to put on.
