Ticks- how do you remove a dang Tick?

Fortunately I have zero adult experience with ticks.

I occasionally watch this Russian who builds a cabin in the woods... well he got a tick.

This is his improved method to remove the tick with a credit card and a sharp knife.

My dad said you would hold a cigarette near a tick. The heat would cause them to back out and fall off.

I don't know if this works or if anyone smokes anymore.

Do you have a solution to share?

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Vaseline placed on them will usually work. The cigarette method works but too often people kill the tick. Also be aware that depending on what area you are lyme disease is a really issue. Doctor can give antibiotics as a precaution if the area is one that is a problem.

I've never carried Vaseline... I guess I'm a boring hiker

Would chapstick work the same to smother them?

The idea of never being able to eat red meats again caused by Lyme Disease is terrifying. STEAK! NOT THE STEAK!

some ticks are easier than others i always slather them with anti-biotic ointment be it neosporin/bacitracin or any of the petroleum jelly based types

Margarine or butter if no vaseline or neosporin or go to 99 cents store and buy some cheapskates.

Nasty nasty nasty we were just up in the mountains camping and my son saw a sign saying check your body for ticks when you take a shower he asked me if they were kidding LOL city boy

The method I heard was you light a match blow it out and then use the Amber on the end of the match to scare the tick

Dictated but not read, voice typing plus bad eyes equals typos

Just a tip a ziplock bag with Vaseline on cotton balls not only makes a good fire starter you can use it for the ticks.

Ticks can kill. A shooting bud of mine was bitten by a tick on his farm. He did not go to the hospital immediately, only when his wife got back from travel, a day or so later, did she take him. Whatever that tick had in it, it killed him.

I have been bitten by a tick, practicing small bore prone. I don't know if it was in the grass, or in the trees. I parked in the shade. But it sure made me sick for days, I was nauseous, vomiting, and had a fever.

Search for tick removal tool. Pick one that works for you.

Don't mess with Vaseline or other methods that take time. You want to get a tick that has bitten you off ASAP.

The method is interesting, but make one out of an old card ahead of time.

Other methods will be needed if the tick is not on an essentially flat surface.

We've been using the O'Tom Tick Twisters that our Veterinarian recommended. Super easy to use and quickly removes ticks. Whatever method you use, you want to avoid squeezing a tick which can cause it to regurgitate the bastidges bodily fluids into the bite area, dramatically increasing the chance of transmission of Lyme Disease.

Bugsey ^ has the method I was taught and used. Wooden match, strike burn for a second or two, blow out and touch tic with ember.

I always thought you were supposed to use a lit cigarette.
