So my wife is going camping in a few weeks with some friends looking to get her a bear proof container was thinking a metal ammo can but I'm guessing that's not good enough does anyone have any recommendations that's a decent size

The ammo cans they will stomp on and then they can open the lid. You could suspend it and be fine though.
This is what I have. LINK But I can't verify if it will survive a bear as no bear has shown up to see if it was worth it to tempt fate. -

They rent them for $5.
