We use them at work. Smaller, way more maneuverable, use less fuel, when things are damp they don't sink into soft ground as bad, if the terrain is uneven (it often is) they are many times more capable than a truck.

What is the attraction of large non-street legal buggies?

Main advantages for contractor/construction use would be cheap registration and lighter than a pickup. Quicker to move parts and supplies around. Helps out a lot on muddy sites. Plus anybody can drive them.Comment

You're looking at a Ranger, which is their straight-up utility model, but you need to be looking at a model like the General or a RZR. Or a Can-Am Commander or Maverick.
For trails and light-to-moderate 4 wheeling, sport side-by-sides are incredibly capable. Stock for stock, you can take them in places where you wouldn't dare take a stock pickup truck--and not have to worry about damaging your daily driver, either. They're a hell of a good time.Comment

My buddy bought one for his property. Lot easier on the land and the vehicle while felling bug damaged trees. Very maneuverable. Very capable.
And ya...no DMV commercial vehicle plate fees and maintenance.Palestine is a fake country

I see those SxS used all the time on the construction sites I work on. Way quicker and easier to move people and materials around a 30+ acre job site."If a man hasn't found something worth dying for, he isn't fit to live." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Plus we use them a lot on the farm and ranch.
My dad made a buggy out of two Corvairs. Good front group off one and Turbo Monza motor back half from another. Shortened the wheelbase 19 inches and dished what had been the doors. Replaced the stock 13" rims with some 20's off a truck.
It idled at 35mph, popped wheelies in 3 gears and was a blast off road.Last edited by 71MUSTY; 11-27-2017, 11:12 AM.Only slaves don't need guns

On a farm or large parcel of land you use them to go to the mail box, spray the weeds, pull a water trailer for when you weld, fetch wood for the stove, go to the other out buildings, turn off the water in the lower fields, drive to the garage to get the car or truck, put on a trailer and use on other property or public lands etc, etc etc. We have a side-by-side, a golf cart, an old nursery cart etc, etc. Beats walking and cranking up a one ton truck as you multitask and make endless repairs. When you run your own water system etc, you get to fix it."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T.
