Preferably within 2 hrs of Sacramento, but anything in California would be cool. Need to some ideas on a place to plan a camping trip.

    thanks!

Interested as well, I am in San Diego.
Now, I moved here a year ago from Italy. So don't be pissed at me guys (for not researching the subject, that is).

I am gearing all up on night vision as well. F U N.

Just remember that this weekend is squirrel season opening, so be aware of a bunch of Asians. (I'm Asian, so there.)

All the good areas around Sac/Yosemite were burnt to the ground two years ago. I think they are still closed.
          NytWolf, were those your people?

          j/k

The Marble Mountains, but they are more than 2 hrs from Sac. Not much real wilderness that close to the den of the devil, the CA legislature.

Utica reservoir is really nice, but there will be a few folks there this time of year. Should be reachable in 2 hrs.

It's hard to beat the desert in the fall or winter if you're willing to travel, and have the time. Head off the beaten path away from modern amenities/crowds and you won't regret it.

Sleeping under the stars with a light rain spattering on your tarp is a bonus. Wake up early because you're freezing your arse off and need some coffee or hot tea, and watch the sun come up over the nearby ridge.

I highly recommend a trip into Death Valley if you're in the vicinity. Some decent camping spots there too.

What kind of camping? Middle of a National Forest with a shovel, or a site with RV hookups?

All are options. I would prefer a tent but we do have the use of an RV.

Spring and Fall/Winter camping in the desert is awesome! Not too hot, although very cold at night

There is no cold a big hardwood bonfire cannot beat. Winter desert camping is the best.

                              Tahoe National Forest is nice.

                              Deer season right now though.

Jackson Meadows Reservior and Bowman reservior areas are nice for camping and shooting.
